Who made my clothes? Fashion Revolution week is not far off (April 23-29) Get ready to ask your favourite fashion brands this important question. Our answer to this question is that our Pachacuti fairtrade hats are made by these highly skilled weavers in Ecuador. @fash_rev

A Panama hat is a classic. Ours are extra special as they are also fair trade, made by highly skilled women in Ecuador, who are paid fairly for their work. Their skills have been passed down through the generations. The fibres for our hats come from an organic plantation and you can read more about our transparent supply chain on our website.

How our hats are made.
Once the chlorophyll has been removed, the fibres need to dry before our straw producers can move on to the next stage of processing. In 2012 UNESCO added the art of weaving a “Panama” hat to their list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is a term used for knowledge, traditions and rituals which permeate the everyday life of a community, are passed down through generations and form an intrinsic part of their identity and culture. Weaving a hat from “paja toquilla” represents the cultural heritage of the entire community. #panamahat #pachacutiuk #intangibleculturalheritage #unesco #traditionalskills #pajatoquilla #chooseartisan #traditionalskills #ethicalfashion #whomademyclothes #sustainablefashion #waeving #shopethical
How our hats are made.
The harvested fibres of the Carloludovica Palmata plant are first cooked to remove the chlorophyll. The next stage is drying, then it starts to look like the fibres of the "paja toquilla" you'll find in one of our hats. British design is well known for both its innovation and heritage and Pachacuti expresses this as a brand. Designs which look good not just from season to season, but from decade to decade. Styles with longevity made from quality materials, luxurious ribbons and innovative trims. Our fairtrade hats are designed in Britain, handwoven in Ecaudor and finally trimmed in our Derbyshire workshop, with the finest quality petersham ribbon made in Luton or perhaps beautiful silk jacquard ribbon woven in Devon, before being sent to customers all over the world.

Has your Panama Hat shrunk? Perhaps you got caught in an unexpected rain shower or humidity has affected your hat and it's now a little snugger fit than you'd like. If so, we offer restoration services on our hats or your can get one of these devices - a hat jack to maintain its size or stretch your hat back to a perfect fit. Either way, a little care and attention can prolong the life of your hat, making it better value for money and for the environment too. For more information on hat jacks or restoration see the link to our website in our profile.
