ASCENSION VS. ASSUMPTION

The main difference between ascension and assumption is that Jesus ascended into the kingdom of Heaven by His own power while Mary's assumption depended on the power of God. The Church, from the very beginning, has professed the Divinity of our Lord Jesus and His oneness with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Mary was only assumed into heaven, that is to say, not by her own power (because she is not divine, and the Church has never taught that she is), but by the power of her Divine Son Jesus.

Although the dogma of the Assumption was definitively proclaimed only in 1950, this belief has been upheld by the Church as early as the fifth century. We know that the Virgin Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken up into heaven by the power of God, because this account has been handed down to us by the Apostles and their successors. The assumption of Mary is part of the Sacred Tradition of the Church, which, along with Sacred Scripture, make up the complete Deposit of Faith.

Her presence in heaven is further confirmed by the twelfth chapter of the Book of Revelation: "A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head." #LayDominicansPH #DominicansPH #OrderOfPreachers #FraternitiesOP #Catholic #Christian #Church #Gospel #Sunday #Ascension #Assumption #Jesus #Mary #Catechism #Faith #Tradition #Scripture
Pope Pius XII explains the logical connection between Mary's immaculate conception and her assumption:
.
"...These two privileges are most closely bound to one another. Christ overcame sin and death by his own death, and one who through Baptism has been born again in a supernatural way has conquered sin and death through the same Christ. Yet, according to the general rule, God does not will to grant to the just the full effect of the victory over death until the end of time has come. And so it is that the bodies of even the just are corrupted after death, and only on the last day will they be joined, each to its own glorious soul.
.
Now God has willed that the Blessed Virgin Mary should be exempted from this general rule. She, by an entirely unique privilege, completely overcame sin by her Immaculate Conception, and AS A RESULT she was not subject to the law of remaining in the corruption of the grave, and she did not have to wait until the end of time for the redemption of her body."
.
(From the apostolic constitution, Munificentissimus Deus, par. 4-5, promulgated on 1 November 1950)
.
In sum: we believe that, because of her exemption from the stain of original sin, the Blessed Virgin Mary's flesh was not subject to the corruption of the grave. This was an extraordinary grace which Mary enjoyed not by her own power or sole merit, but through Jesus Christ, His Divine Son. .

Like the apostle Peter, there are moments in our life when fear and anxiety overcome us. When we forget that God's love is more powerful than our problems and worries, Jesus asks us: "Why do you doubt?" In these trying moments, we can imitate the prayer of that man in the Scriptures, whose son was healed by Jesus: "Lord, I do believe, but help my unbelief!"

...Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, "Truly, you are the Son of God."
