Let us not only 'say' the #Rosary, let us #pray it with our full attention, dedication, and love! After all, this very #Marian prayer is centered on the life of our savior, #JesusChrist. With Mary's help, let us contemplate on the #mysteries of our #salvation, and through it may we be made worthy of the promises of Christ!

...destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.' The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen."

St. Louis Bertrand was born in Valencia, Spain on 01 January 1526 and entered the Order of Preachers in 1544, against the wishes of his parents. Not many years after his ordination, he was appointed novice master, an office that he fulfilled with such zeal and prudence that the Order considers him as patron of novices and persons in charge of formation.
.
He was destined to the New World as a missionary in 1562 where he labored indefatigably for over seven years among the most savage and hostile Indian tribes of Colombia. Though totally ignorant of the language of these peoples, he was able to convert countless numbers through the miraculous gift of tongues.
.
Indignant and unable to reverse the cruel and unjust treatment of natives by the Spanish overlords, he returned to Spain and resumed his duties as novice master. He died on 09 October 1581.
.
PRAYER | Almighty and merciful God, as you filled the heart of St. Louis Bertrand with reverent fear of your name, inflame our hearts with the same divine fire. With both love and reverence may we too serve you faithfully. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

This Marian feast was instituted to commemorate the great naval victory won by the severely outnumbered Christian forces over the Muslim Turks at Lepanto on Sunday, October 7, 1571. The Dominican Pope, St. Pius V, decreed that a feast in honor of Our Lady of Victories be celebrated each year on that day.
.
His successor, Gregory XIII, transferred the feast to the first Sunday of October, under the new title of "Feast of the Most Holy Rosary," since it was thought that the victory was won through the invocation of Our Lady of the Rosary.
.
Although the feast was later returned to the original day, from the time of Pope Leo XIII the entire month of October has been dedicated in a special way to the Virgin of the Holy Rosary.
.
At the foundation of the missionary province for the Far East in 1587, the founding Fathers decided to name the province after Our Lady of the Rosary and to honor her as the principal patroness.
.
Tradition says our holy father, St. Dominic, received the rosary from the Virgin Mary and the child Jesus, as a powerful means of converting even the most stubborn heretics. From that point on, devotion to and propagation of Mary's rosary has been an integral, indispensable part of Dominican life.
.
PRAYER | O God, whose only-begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech you, that meditating on these mysteries of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

October 4 - St. Francis of Assisi (Feast in the Dominican Family)
.
St. Francis was born in 1182 to a wealthy family in Assisi, Italy. Gifted with a joyful spirit, Francis renounced his father's wealth to become the "little poor man of Assisi." An extraordinary person, he attracted many followers and by evangelical poverty strengthened the Church. Receiving the stigmata towards the end of his life, Francis finally embraced "Sister Death" on October 3, 1226.
.
The feast day of St. Francis in our liturgy signifies the singular bond between Franciscans and Dominicans, for the two Orders were founded in the same historical milieu for the renewal of the Church. They also share the common gospel inspiration in their ministry.
.
PRAYER | Almighty God, you granted our seraphic Father Francis the grace of conformity to Christ in poverty and humility. By walking in the paths he trod may we follow your Son and be joined to you in love and joy. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
