Another day, another pre-op....
BRCA op number 4 next week.
This time it's removal of my fallopian tubes to reduce my ovarian cancer risk. As I'm 31, my surgeon and I agreed that we will remove my ovaries at a later date (late 30s) as the impact of early menopause can be severe.
Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel 👐

Positively BRCA support group, through Hope for Heather, offers support for anyone that has tested positive for a BRCA gene mutation. Thank you @farahjadran @newschannel9_wsyr for helping bring awareness to BRCA gene mutations and the increased risk for #cancer

It's #TealTuesday and I'm throwing it back to that time Mom and I did a 5K barely two weeks after her last chemo. Look at her badassery. It's amazing. 😍

Good Morning and Happy Monday! This morning I've been up and out the door to the hospital for blood work and my yearly mammogram. Since I had to fast for some of my blood tests I'm looking forward to a nice big cup of Earl☕️So let's talk about how important it is to get your yearly screening. As an ovarian cancer survivor it is very important for me to be screened yearly without question. Because certain types of cancer have presented in my immediate family members, after my ovca diagnosis at 26 yrs. old I was tested to see if I carried a mutation of either BRCA1 or 2. If you carry a mutation of either of these genes, which are inherited by your parent, your risk for Ovarian and Breast increases. I'm one of the unlucky ones who inherited both genes. Also my heritage increased my likelihood of carrying a mutation of one of the genes. It is important to know your family history of disease. If ovarian, breast, prostate, acute myeloid leukemia, and colon cancer run in your family with 1-3 degree relatives, I can't stress enough how important it is to get genetic testing. Being aware can save your life! #happymonday #breastcancerawarenessmonth #beBRCAware #gettested #beaware #ovariancancersurvivor #knowyourrisk #tealsthedeal #breastcancer #knowyourfamilyhealthhistory #beBRCAtested #genetictesting #knowledgeispower #igotmyearl☕️

Happy Previvor Day! I'm so grateful for this community of other girls I've found (#Breasties) who have been through a similar journey! Making the decision to undergo a prophylactic double mastectomy at age 23 wasn't easy... but I'm grateful for the peace it's brought to my soul and body. It's been an ongoing journey for me, and it has NOT been easy. I am so lucky to have a gracious husband who gives me grace through every sharp pain or wince I make when my toddler accidentally puts pressure on a painful spot while simply trying to play. Just last week I was crying on an airplane worried another cyst had ruptured while we were up in the air and @thetylerbates was quick to pray over me right then and wipe my tears away! Seriously, being a #previvor would be near impossible without his support!! My first surgery feels like forever ago.... a lot of life has happened. But I'm left with aches and scars and awkward explanations like telling people "Oh I didn't feel you touch my back because I legit have no feeling on my shoulder blade... sorry!"
.
One thing I've never talked about as much as I would like to in this journey is probably the process of accepting myself post surgery. I think there's more people out there that get surgeries that change how they look or feel about themselves, and if you're out there... I'd love to talk!! Accepting myself post surgery was one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through! If you've had any surgery that made you feel less than, less pretty... or just plain weird... You are beautiful because you are BRAVE!
