#Rejoice in the Lord always. And again I say #Rejoice! -Phillipians 4:4
.
This Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, asks us to #rejoice on our journey. Last Sunday we talked about God’s faithfulness, and before that about his promises. Each Sunday is building upon the one previous to it. Beautiful, isn’t it?
.
Today, we are called to #rejoice in all our undertakings (Deut 12:7), #rejoice in the truth (1Corin 13:6), #rejoice in our trials (Matt 5:12), in tribulation (Romans 5:3), #rejoice over justice being done (Psalm 106:3), and when someone repents (Luke 15:10). We are called to #rejoice in our successes (Esther 8:15), in our blessings (Psalm 127:5), and also to #rejoice with those who #rejoice (12:15).
.
And of course we rejoice in God our Savior, for he has done great things for us! (Luke 1:46-49)
.
But maybe you are having a hard time right now finding a way to #rejoice when you are facing struggle. For you I offer a prayer, and the following scripture:
.
“And through your faith, God is protecting you by His power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while… you love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you #rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting Him will be the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:5-6, 8-9)
.
Peace be with you,

Most of us do everything we can to avoid pain, suffering, or even a little discomfort. But as Catholics, we know that our suffering is not pointless, that it can be redemptive, offered up to God as a sacrifice for the sake of others, to #serve others. Even if suffering is not inherently good, it can can produce  good if we endure it, allow it to purify us, and make it into a sacrifice.
.
Our Church and world today need us to #serve and sacrifice for it. What are ways you can #serve the Church and world through sacrifice the rest of Advent?

#Silence. At this time of year, I think of a snow covered dawn, but in reality a Mother’s day is rarely silent. Even snow covered early hours of the day most likely see you nursing a baby or waking the school kids. Our hours is filled with the noise of media, the cries of a baby, and the clamours of a toddler. It’s a beautiful noise, but we need pockets of #silence. God is in the pots and pans as St. Theresa of Avila is credited as saying, to be sure, but He speaks to us in the #silence. Find those pockets of #silence this Advent. Take the time to listen- in the Adoration chapel, if you’re lucky- but more likely hiding in your closet with a squirrelled away chocolate bar. He sees you. He is always awaiting us, longing to speak to us, in the #silence.

What do you #see when you look at a Nativity set? The older I get the more I reflect on Mary’s “Yes” to the Lord. She didn’t know exactly what the future held. She didn’t know all the details of Jesus’ life.
.
Like any woman who is expecting a baby, she probably had more questions than answers.
And yet she still agreed to being the mother of our Savior simply because God asked her.
.
When God asks us, do we say “Yes” too, even when we are unsure what it will mean for our future? For me, it’s often a begrudging “Yes.” Or a “Are you sure, Lord?”
.
As we prepare for Jesus’ birth, how can you work to say “Yes” in small ways so that we can automatically say “Yes” to the large things God asks of us? ~ Rosemary @rcw10

The Lord is gracious and merciful; slow to anger, and of great kindness.

Today’s feast is Our Lady of Guadalupe. This miracle is amazing! Researcher and physicist Dr. Aldofo Orozco told participants at the International Marian Congress on Our Lady of Guadalupe that there is no scientific explanation for the 478 years of high quality-preservation of the Tilma or for the miracles that have occurred to ensure its preservation.

Happy feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe! Today is the 487th anniversary of the miracle of the image of Mary being miraculously created on St. Juan Diego's tilma.
.
I find two things so very interesting about this Marian apparition: one is Mary's timing, and the other is Mary's use of roses to create the image.
.
Advent is the season that the church gives us every year to reflect on, and anticipate for, the end of the world and Jesus' coming. Mary could have chosen any time to make her apparition, so it's no coincidence she chose this date. It's an image of anticipation since everything points to Jesus but he's not yet visible; it's very much an image of Advent.
.
The image was created by Mary when she appeared to Juan Diego and arranged Castilian roses in his tilma to be taken to Archbishop Zumárraga as proof of her apparition.
.
What an interesting medium for her to use, roses. An artist recently told me that a #rose is symbolic for Momento Mori– Remember Your Death. Yes, roses are beautiful to look at, but they are a fleeting beauty, dying just as quickly as they bloom. They are temporary, just like our earthly lives.
.
And yet, Mary used roses on a cactus fiber cloak (that should have long since dissolved) to miraculously make an everlasting image. What a great paradox. What a great promise.
.
How easy it is for us lose sight of just how short our time is here on Earth. Is it really worth it to lose our temper over traffic? To feel slighted by a cashier who makes a mistake? To hold grudges against those we're supposed to keep closest to us? This holiday season, let us ponder the image of the Lady clothed with the Sun and all that she teaches us.
.
Remember your death.
.
Hope for what is to come.
