Staff and residents grow community gardens at several Continuum programs so our people can eat healthier, learn new skills, and socialize with one another. Conny the Re-Builder dropped by a new garden site where Will (pictured 2nd from left) and other members of our Landscaping Crew were building fencing and tilling the land.
.
.
Will volunteers his time on the weekends to do extra landscaping work to give back to the community that has supported him during his recovery from mental illness and substance use. “Working makes me feel great. I’m better off, and I stay out of trouble.”

Be a Re-Builder. Give during The Great Give so clients like Will can pay it forward as they rebuild their lives. Click the link in our bio to start giving.
Two of our clients who have Asperger's, Tim and Sarah, gave a talk Thursday night. Here's what Conny the Re-Builder learned from them: .
.
-- Some people on the autism spectrum experience anxiety from sensory overload. Speaking softly and clearly can help reduce stress.
.
.
-- Intense and highly focused interests are common. Perhaps, you can tap into their expertise.
.
.
-- Many people on the autism spectrum are wired to be blunt and straightforward. Embrace their honesty, and don't mistake it for rudeness.
.
.
Mostly, Conny learned that they just want to be loved and accepted, and have the opportunity to live fully in the community.
.
.
Be a Re-Builder. Show them you care. Help rebuild lives during The Great Give (May 1-2, early giving starts April 23).
Everyone, say hello to Conny the Re-builder! Our new mascot will be taking you around to meet the people of Continuum and give you a peek into our community leading up to The Great Give (May 1-2). .
