Which one would you eat first?
It’s been 1 week since starting the @edgeathletelounge  February Meditation Challenge and already I am applying strategies I’ve learned to my running and strength classes 💪
Biggest change so far: how I approach discomfort
In the past I would let that “oh no.. oh no... oh NO THIS IS HARD” thought overpower me and slow down or stop. With meditation I’m learning to simply acknowledge that thought and let it float away while I keep going. 
I’m not perfect, but it’s so cool to observe the small changes and progress 
There’s still time left in the month to join the challenge! Meditate every day, adding 1 min each day - of you can’t add a minute then at least just try for meditating everyday. Apps like @headspace are great for starting

I hear ice vests are in style these days

Mother Nature batted me around on the Lakefront Trail this morning with 30+ mph winds and snow pelting my face 
My watch even froze towards the end and missed the last 2ish miles 😩 
Usually I would be all in my head, cursing every step, and the run would pass painstakingly slow
But this time around I focused on my breath and letting those negative “I really hate this weather” thoughts pass. I wasn’t 100% great at it, but it was definitely an improvement! 
Only a few days into this February #edgemeditationchallenge and it’s helping already 🙌 
Time for a hot shower, breakfast and then heading to the bake sale at @aliceandfriendsvegan - come stop by for some goodies!

Working on a triangle of light 🏃🏻‍♀️💪
Arm swing is important for stabilizing the body when running and it works together with your leg stride to drive you forward 
After seeing photos and videos of myself running the @f3eventschicago #halfmarathon, it’s also clearly one area I need to improve to become a more efficient runner

Every run should have a purpose, so on my easy runs I focus on improving my arm swing instead of running like I’m trying to learn how to fly 😂 
Arms should be bent at 90 degrees and swing forward and back along your sides - aiming to get a “triangle of light” on the back swing. I also like to think of it like I’m a gun slinger in the Wild West about to duel 🤓💫

Mediterranean soul bowl

I’ve been on a Mediterranean food kick lately, trying to find the best falafel in town. It’s because I’m getting bored with my regular meals and regular go to proteins of tofu, tempeh and seitan. So far I’ve tried @idreamoffalafel , @olivemediterranean, @rotimodernmed and @sultansmarket 
Any other suggestions?

In the mean time, I’ve been making some Mediterranean inspired salads at home like this one that I featured on last week’s What I Ate Wednesday:
1 c chopped parsley
1/2 cucumber, diced
2 vine tomato, diced
1/4 c red onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced 
1/2 c cooked amaranth (I swapped this for farro yesterday and like it a lot better)
Juice from 1/2 a lemon + salt n pepper to taste
Mix it all together in a bowl, top with chickpeas or other protein - serves 4

In the above salad I added the last bits of some arugula and wild rice, then sliced a purple carrot and tossed in some dehydrated chickpeas for protein and crunch (texture fanatic 🙋🏻‍♀️)

Running is not about numbers
It’s about moments of pure happiness 
It’s about creating community 
It’s about celebrating each other 
It’s about enjoying time outside
It’s about loving your body and the fact that it can move and sweat and get you from point A to point B without injury regardless of how slow or fast it is
🏃🏻‍♀️💚 I ran the @f3eventschicago #halfmarathon on Saturday and I’ll be honest, I almost didn’t want to. I couldn’t stop thinking of the fast times I had previously run, the times that I knew I could not reach now. I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that at this time last year I was a much lighter weight. For me, weight and running have been so closely linked. It’s hard to see myself slower and heavier and not let that start a negative thinking spiral

Luckily, this photo snapped me out of that. 
Running is so much more than numbers, LIFE is so much more than numbers. Comparison is the thief of joy. I can’t believe it almost got in the way of me doing something I truly love to do. Live in the moment and stop assigning yourself numbers. That’s my mantra and personal growth goal for 2018

Keep calm and chive (cream cheese) on 🌱🍞🧀
Normally I like Monday’s - they’re the start of a new week, anything is possible. But with the way things are at work I’ve started to dread them. So I’m putting lots more time and energy into coaching, recipe testing and blogging in an effort to grow all that. It’s been a fun stress release that has led to some cool kitchen experiments and successes 👩🏻‍🍳
