JOURNEY
If you would have asked me in May how I thought the training season for the @berlinmarathon would go, I would have mapped out a “return to speed” program, switching from ultra marathon training back to road racing in pursuit of a low 3hr time //
If you would have asked me in July how I thought this marathon would go, I would have said I wouldn’t be able to  do it. A hamstring injury struck, my first running injury ever, and required over a month of no running. When I could start to run again, it was just a mile or two at a time, eventually completing one 10mi run in September as my first double digit run in three months and last long run before Berlin //
So while the actual training cycle looked nothing like the path I envisioned, it was a journey I am proud of. I learned more about the power of community, gratitude and mental strength. Of just showing up for others even when your own running isn’t showing up for you. The result was becoming a more well-rounded runner and coach, which is more important than any medal or finishing time. The journey teaches us more about ourselves and about life than any single outcome can

So when one path ends, you may think the journey has finished. You may cry and stress and not know what to do. But, like any good trail run, if you just take a moment to look around, you’ll soon find another path. It might be half hidden, not as smooth, and with many sharp turns, but the journey continues nonetheless. Onward we go 💚🏃🏻‍♀️

Key lessons from my 20s:
• I am more than a number on a scale. Beauty, happiness and success are not dictated by pant size
• Don’t build your life around others. Build it around yourself: your dreams, your happiness and your interests and then invite others in
• If I don’t advocate for myself, no one will
• Happiness at work is more important than salary
• My body is a garden, not a graveyard. There’s too much violence in the world, I don’t need it invading my plate
• Vulnerability is scary, but is the birthplace of love, creativity and change
• Often the process is more important than the outcome
• Time is the most valuable resource, spend it wisely
• Running is the best teacher
• I’m capable of more than I think. And I’m just getting started

I’ll be in Berlin for a week and a half for the #berlinmarathon so I‘m trying to finish up the produce and odds and ends I have in the fridge. Threw together some sweet potato waffles for an quick brunch... now if only packing were this easy 😬😂

Wake up in the dark with only my goals to light the way 🔥
With summer fading fast, the sun no longer rises before I do. That snooze button is getting easier to hit. Rehabbing my hamstring injury is a mental and physical grind, and it’s so easy to think about giving up. 
It’s time to come back to my WHY. Why do I continue to get up early, to hike on the treadmill, to pool run, to do short test runs in the dark or in the rain? 
Running makes me feel alive. It’s my way of expanding my definition of what’s possible. What am I capable of? 
I have goals that are big and scary and ambitious, and this summer I’ve had setbacks, but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up on them. I want to find my limits and then push past them. I’ll just have to find new ways to get there

YOU GUYS, I ran for 8+ nonstop miles this morning 🎉
That’s the longest continuous run I’ve done since the beginning of July when I injured my hamstring and adductor. Just in time- I leave for Berlin in less than two weeks 🤯
Came home in a celebratory mood so I made some blueberry ginger protein #nicecream for breakfast. Even topped it with some jumbo @enjoylifefoods vegan chocolate chips! Because when you finally feel like you’re going to be able to finish a marathon after taking over two months off you #treatyoself 💃🏻

I’ve been quiet on here lately because my days have been booked up to the minute. 
Trying to build up my own business AND work full time AND rehab from an injury is exhausting 😴 
One-pot meals save me when I get home and realize I didn’t have time to meal prep. Made this polenta + bean + kale + tomato bowl for dinner last night in about 15 minutes 😋🙌
Deets 👉🏻 Boil 3 c water in sauce pan. Slowly stir in 1/2 c polenta, whisking the entire time. Toss in spices (I used @bobsredmill nutritional yeast, rosemary, fennel, turmeric and pepper) and whisk some more. Transfer cooked polenta to a bowl and return pan to the heat. Dry roast the sliced 🍅 and beans over medium heat. Add the shredded kale on top and cover to steam. Add it all to a bowl and eat! 🤩

Solid fitness weekend

Yesterday I coached the @edgeathletelounge training crew as they threw down some serious long run miles- 15 with surges followed by 3 miles of hill repeats. Standing at the top of the hill cheering as they finished was my inspiration for my “long run” today
💚
Test run number 5 followed by 1:20 pool run for a 2 hour total long run. Helga the Hamstring and Addy the Adductor didn’t bother me at all, and I left the gym feeling *almost* back to normal. Berlin Marathon is in 28 days.... #berlinorbust
