So it's December 1st! Where did the year go? Looking back on the past year seems like a total blur for me. I soft launched Black Arts Vegan around this time last year and got my first markets from the wonderful @fatgayvegan which really gave me a leg up into this crazy emerging community of vegan foodpreneurs. I'm astonished at how quickly this little business has grown in just under 12 months!⠀

It's been super tough juggling a part time job with running a full time business, but it's completely worth it to build something I care about and have it be my job. I'm so excited to see what the next year brings for Black Arts Vegan and I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has offered support, feedback and lessons over the past year - I love you! ⠀

Our new shop is now live and we have Christmas giftbox options and free shipping over £40. You can also collect your Christmas cheese from either of the festive Hackney Downs Vegan Markets on the 22nd and 23rd December.⠀

We're expanding our range of Aphrodite spreads, 'cause we know you them! This iteration is chive and garlic, which has a surprisingly buttery flavour. We already reckon you'll love it, but the big question is....what do we call it? We thought maybe Venus, another Goddess of love? Let us know in the comments below!⠀

Our first offering is the 👑 Red Queen 👑 a semi-soft and creamy soy-based cheese with a spicy coating of Spanish smoked paprika 💃 With notes of mustard and onion, this is the latest addition to our melting cheese range. ⠀

OMG! you've got to get yourself some of this melting basil mozzerlla.. thank you to @blackartsvegan for this absolutely delicious cheese that I got @brightonveganmarket yesterday.. I used this cheese as part of the stuffing mixture in these yummy stuffed baked aubergines then sprinkled grated mozzerlla on top.. definitely making this again! 😋

It's that time of year again (like, seriously, how is it almost December?). We're trialing Christmas pre-orders this year so you can get some delicious cheeses delivered to your door just in time for your holiday cheeseboards 🧀🧀⠀

These will be launched along with our brand new website on Saturday December 1st! Our usual online shop is now closed so we can make all the necessary adjustments ⛑️⠀

We're also busy in the test kitchen coming up with some new cheeses, so keep an eye on your tea leaves for those!⠀

We made a burger! Not rocket science, possibly not even a recipe, but a damn tasty burger in our opinion. We used our 'Smoke on the Water Smokey' Cheddar for this rock and roll number 🍔⠀

Our burger also features @vegan_cartel 's incredible bacon 🥓🥓 If you haven't tried it yet, go check them out! For the pattie, we chose the Iceland No Bull Jalapeño burgers.⠀

To get the cheese good and melty on the burger, we used a little pro trick. Put the burger in a really hot pan, squirt or pour water onto the pan and quickly cover with a saucepan lid. This creates a little pocket of steam inside so the cheese can get hot enough to melt and go gooey. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Don't want any burns with your dinnner.⠀

Once you've got your cheesey pattie, stack your burger with some fresh lettuce, 🍅, onion and any relish you like and serve with a side of chips. We baked cassava to make the chips pictured here 🥔🥔⠀

I've been in the test kitchen this week doing magical cheese spells! This is a butternut squash and broccoli pasta bake with a smokey cheddar topping using our very own Smoke on the Water cheddar 🧀 🧀 ⠀

Want to make it yourself? Here's what you'll need:⠀

6 cups macaroni elbows⠀
1 small butternut squash, peeled and chopped⠀
1 medium sweet white onion, chopped⠀
[keep the water!]⠀
1 medium head of broccoli, cut into small florets⠀
1/4 cup raw cashews, soaked in warm water⠀
1/2 tsp dijon mustard⠀
1/4 tsp garlic powder⠀
1/4 tsp turmeric⠀
pinch of nutmeg⠀
salt and pepper to taste⠀
1 pack of 'Smoke on the Water' smokey cheddar, grated⠀

Add the butternut squash and onion to a pan with enough water to cover. Boil for about 10 minutes or until the squash is cooked through. Boil and drain the pasta and steam or boil the broccoli florets briefly so they still have some bite to them (I see you, overboilers! 👀)⠀

Drain the butternut squash and onion from the pan, making sure to save some of the water. Add the squash, onion, cashews, mustard and spices to a blender and add about a quarter to a half a cup of the water you saved. Blend until smooth.⠀

Preheat your grill to it's highest setting. Stir the butternut squash puree into your macaroni and then stir in the broccoli florets and pour everything  into an ovenproof dish. Top with the grated smokey cheddar and grill until the top is golden and bubbling!⠀
