John Corr’s first book, Eight Times Up is a wonderful read recommended for middle grade readers. The story, filled with diverse and well developed secondary characters, centres on Riley, an anxious teen who is facing personal challenges. Through his close relationships with friends and through his dedication to the art of Akido, Riley learns to find balance and awareness, to trust himself and to bring courage in the face of life’s challenges.
.
This book was enjoyable, uplifting and inspiring. Looking forward to John Corr’s future books for middle graders!

Chicken Girl by the talented Heather Smith is a must-have summer read. This sensitive, painfully-accurate and “punny” read will have you in stitches and in tears. (Bonus: many new witty puns to share with friends!)
