Tropical biologist Nadiah Roslan releases a common bush rat (Rattus fuscipes) on Mount Lewis during our 3 Peaks in 3 Weeks expedition to climb and survey the biodiversity of three of tropical Australia’s highest mountains. The high-altitude cloudforests of tropical mountaintops are among the most vulnerable ecosystems to climate change. Many of the species found there are naturally rare, have small geographic ranges and are adapted to a narrow range of conditions. As temperatures rise and rainfall patterns change if these species can’t move or adapt fast enough they are heading for extinction. Read about our Australian Geographic Society sponsored 3 peaks in 3 weeks expedition in the current (Nov-Dec 2017) edition of @australiangeographic magazine!

Thanks also to the Centre for Tropical Biodiversity & Climate Change @jamescookuniversity and the Australian Tropical Herbarium in #Cairns for their support of the expedition.

To raise awareness about the impacts of climate change in the tropics a group of friends, among them biologists, photographers, filmmakers and seasoned adventurers, got together to climb and survey the biodiversity of three of the highest peaks in tropical northern Australia.

Pictured here is a male Golden Bowerbird. This spectacular species is found above 900 metres in the Wet Tropics region of northern Queensland, Australia. It is one of several bird species found in high altitude cloudforests that have undergone notable population declines in recent decades #bird #bowerbird

Flashback to the epic '3 Peaks in 3 Weeks' expedition we participated in to highlight climate change threats to the cloudforests of Australia's tropical mountains for Australian Geographic magazine. Story out next month!! ・・・
Tropical biologist @nadiahrroslan in her element! At about 4m this is a relatively small scrub python by #Queensland standards. Love this #artwork by The Hiking Artist Project. I’m NOT saying that all #scientists should all become advocates, that’s what advocates are for. But we face wicked, huge challenges that need #science and #scientists to connect with decision makers, and participate in the process and debate. Publishing your paper is just the start. We all need to think about what role we will play ... #foodforthought #sharkresearch #sharkscience #ocean #nature #marineconservation #ivorytower #academia

A view from above Baia Sportsfishing Lodge as one of the local fishing guides pulls up in front. The lodge was set up as part of a local community driven ecotourism initiative to help develop alternative livelihoods for communities in remote areas of Papua New Guinea. It's the focus of our latest @cinematicscience production in collaboration with the National Fisheries Authority of #PNG to highlight some great work they're doing to develop sustainable livelihoods and promote economic development and food security in PNG #WestNewBritain #PapuaNewGuinea
