Nearly 70% of your time at college is spent outside the classroom. Now that spring is here, why not spend some of it jamming on the quad or roasting marshmallows around our fire pit?
A trip to Stonehenge is the beginning of sightseeing for Coe senior Greg Guokas and sophomore Michael Packard. They've just arrived in England with B.D. Silliman Professor of Physics Steve Feller to conduct neutron scattering at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
Members of the Environmental Club and Student Senate recently planted 55 saplings in Coe's new tree nursery. Chosen for their hardiness and aesthetics, the trees will grow for two to three years in the nursery before being planted around campus. Meet Ben Peterson Professor of Chemistry and Chair Maria Dean.
Maria has been chosen to receive a distinguished faculty award through the AAUW, honoring her contributions to gender equity in education.
She loves the sense of community she feels at Coe. "I could feel it when I first visited campus 24 years ago. It is alive and well today. My interactions with students, staff and faculty make my job a happy song. I know how lucky I am! I get to share chemistry and biochemistry topics in class and lab, do research in the summers and never get bored." Congratulations on your award, Maria!
Those faces you see in our promotional photos? They really are Coe students! Today they're having a little fun by helping us grow our photo collection.
Three cheers for Kohawk Kickoff Week! Whether you're a sophomore just starting to think about college or a junior deciding which schools you'll apply to, this week is the perfect time to tour Coe. Schedule your visit at www.coe.edu/kohawkkickoff.
Kohawks are all dolled up and dancing the night away at our annual President's Ball. This celebratory event is an opportunity for students to spend time with friends, faculty and staff in a formal setting not found at many other colleges.
The Coe College Art Club exposes students to art in all its forms...even tie-dye water gun fights! We love to see our students pursue their passions in creative ways, and with more than 100 clubs and organizations, there are plenty of opportunities to do just that.

Meet Assistant Professor of Economics Ryan Baranowski.
Ryan graduated from Coe in 2008 and returned five years ago to join the faculty. He is a huge Cubs fan and loves playing dynasty fantasy football.
Working closely with students and seeing them realize their potential is the most rewarding part of his job, especially when students are able to apply their personal interests to a project.
"I enjoy helping students leverage their interests for their academic pursuits. I've had students research fantasy football pricing, apply game theory to tennis, study international finance and apply sabermetric techniques to different baseball run environments."
Our fraternity and sorority members are known for their leadership, service, academic success and, of course, their social activities. From a bonfire to a neighborhood cleanup, study session and tonight's Greek Olympics, Greek Week celebrates the best of Greek life!
It still feels like winter outside. Stay warm, Kohawks!
We had a busy weekend at Coe. While future Kohawks were visiting campus, current students were hard at work rehearsing for this week's opening of "Much Ado About Nothing." Catch these Kohawks in one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies at 7:30 PM Friday, Saturday and April 19-21 or 2:00 PM Sunday.
