Grass fire along I-65 in Columbus, Indiana. Our crews did a great job of containing this fire before it reached a wooded area. Two engines and 1500 gallons later, job was a success.
We had an outstanding time at tonight's citizens academy. 23 local citizens got an up close look at the Columbus Fire Department apparatus, our facilities, tools and training. We incorporated some hands on and concluded the night with a vehicle extrication demonstration. We hope everyone enjoyed it!
Columbus Firefighters responded to an residential fire yesterday afternoon in the 500 block of N. Gladstone Ave. No injuries were reported. The electrical fire damaged a portion of the kitchen floor and wall. Firefighters found smoke alarms inside the home, but noted that they were not sounding during the incident. Firefighters replaced the expired alarms with new alarms.
Fire extinguisher training with Cummins Engine Company employees from Plant # 1 and the Commons facility. September is National Preparedness Month and we believe these ladies and gentlemen have improved their level of preparedness for the workplace and at home.
Columbus Firefighters responded to the Sogna Della Terra Bakery, 901 Washington St, last night for a fire inside the store. The 9-1-1 caller was a tenant of the building that shares 6 apartments and two businesses. Firefighters arrived on the scene and witnessed a small fire burning on top of a glass display case inside the bakery. Firefighters were forced to break a glass door to enter the building and extinguish the fire. Investigators believe a candle may have contributed to the fire. The investigation is ongoing The business was closed at the time of the incident. Damages are estimated at less than $ 5000.
