Swimming against the tide to try and find a way to get free Doula access for many. Buried in a mountain of socioeconomic research, for Portsmouth, but it'll be so worth it. What else would you do at 32 weeks pregnant? 😂 #swimagainstthetide #equality #everywomandeservesadoula #fundingmission #doula #damaradoula
What is a doula? Is it not a midwife?
Here are the answers to some of those questions. More importantly, Doulas can, improve birth outcomes for women, with them present. 💜
Hire a friggin' doula, people!

Blessed Lammastide to all. What can you 'harvest' and be thankful for? 'A light wind swept over the corn, and all of nature laughed, in the sunshine.' Anne Bronte

We have postnatal care so wrong in this country. There is a desperate need to get back to our traditions. For example, the 'howdie' (Scots for handy woman- the midwife) would give a labouring woman a tea of herbs, nettles, possibly dandelion but, importantly, including rowan berries. Rowan is a sacred plant, linked to the Goddess and spirits. It was believed to protect against naughty fairies and allow the baby's spirit to arrive unharmed.
From a nutritional point of view, they are abundant in vitamin c, which would protect a mother's vulnerable, labouring body from infection and also allow for super absorption of iron, postnatally. They knew a thing or two, those wysewomen. 💜
If any of my, local, birth lovelies would like links or contacts in my resources section, of the new website, let me know and send me your deets. 💜 #underconstruction #allchange #doula #damaradoula
