Just an incredible day today in #dalycity We celebrated the launch of the 30th SMC public #wifi site in #sanmateocounty Big THANKS to those who made it happen and to those who joined us today.
Getting my scissors out for some ribbon cutting action tomorrow to celebrate the launch of #sanmateocounty 's newest Public WiFi site. Join us at 11 am at War Memorial Community Center on Mission street. We'd love to see you there!
Please join us tomorrow morning at 11 AM in #dalycity if you can. We are celebrating the launch of the newest SMC Public WiFi location in #district5 #sanmateocounty: “In today’s world, WiFi is the equivalent to pens and pencils,” said Supervisor Canepa. “Public WiFi plays a critical role in socioeconomic development and educational opportunities. Access to WiFi increases access to information. Without it, many children are left in the digital dark ages.” San Mateo County launched SMC Public WiFi in 2014 to address the significant digital divide between those with high-speed Internet access and those with slow speed or no access. To date, the ISD team has installed 30 public WiFi spots throughout San Mateo County with many more in the pipeline. “One day, I’m hoping that every neighborhood and perhaps every home in the entire Bay Area has access to this incredibly important life-changing technology,” Canepa said. “WiFi has become completely essential to our day to day living and the online world should be equally accessible to all.”
Help me celebrate the launch of the new SMC Public WiFi site at War Memorial Community Center!

We live in the heart of Silicon Valley, but even in San Mateo County we have a significant digital divide between those with high speed Internet access and those with slow speed or no access. The County believes that providing high speed Internet access is the 21st century equivalent to building roads. Providing the infrastructure so that all residents have equal access to online resources is critical to supporting our shared vision of a healthy, safe, prosperous, livable, environmentally conscious, and collaborative community.
