Hi, I’m Dr. Smith! This week we’re discussing tips on what to do if your pet has eaten something that could be toxic. We’ve all been there as pet owners and know that it’s scary when your pet gets their nose in something they shouldn’t. Unfortunately, there are more than 100,000 cases of pet poisoning each year!
When it comes to the appropriate treatment for toxin ingestion, the old adage “the dose makes the poison” plays an important role.
Always seek veterinary care as soon as your pet ingests something poisonous or dangerous. Whenever possible bring AS MUCH packaging / labeling to the clinic.
And always remember to NEVER induce vomiting without first consulting a veterinarian as some toxins do even more damage when they come back up!

One question that I get asked all the time is how often should I take my pet to the doctor?
while most pet parents know that regular check ups are crucial for their cat or dog to stay healthy it is recommended that your pet sees its vet every six months for routine wellness care.
Something important to remember is that pets age on a much more rapid scale than we do, so regular check ups are important for early disease detection which might help improve your pets quality of life and life span.
Routine visits are important, and they can be stressful! Especially for those of you who have feisty cats. Don’t hesitate to talk with your vet about medications or techniques that might help relax your pet prior to its next visit!
