Fleetwood Mac to Tour With Neil Finn, Mike Campbell as Lindsey Buckingham’s Replacements
.
Shortly after Variety confirmed that Lindsey Buckingham had left the band, Fleetwood Mac announced plans to tour this Fall with two new members: Mike Campbell (pictured above, left), longtime lead guitarist for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Crowded House frontman Neil Finn (right) will be joining the Mac for their upcoming tour, with final dates being confirmed shortly.
.
“Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents,” Mick Fleetwood said. “We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound.”
.
“We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs,” said the group collectively. “Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour.”

**Subsequent articles since this was posted indicate he was fired from the band** In either case 😡

Lindsey Buckingham Leaves Fleetwood Mac
.
Lindsey Buckingham, guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire, has left the group Fleetwood Mac, Variety has confirmed. Buckingham has been a key member of Fleetwood Mac, playing with the band from from 1975 to 1987, then, after a decade-long break, returning to the fold in 1997. Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year later.
.
News of the exit was first shared by guitarist Billy Burnette, who tweeted on April 4, “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I’m not in.” The message was deleted a few hours after posting. Presumably, Burnette, who replaced Buckingham in the group from 1987 until it went on hiatus in 1995, was angling for a position in the band.
.
According to a source, Buckingham did not exit voluntarily, rather, says the insider, “He was fired.”
.
Buckingham was not a founding member of Fleetwood Mac, which formed in 1967, but was asked to join the group after the exit of Bob Welch in 1974. That incarnation of the band, which also included Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks, went on to release one of the most successful albums of its time, 1977’s “Rumours,” which has sold more than 40 million copies and yielded such classics as “Don’t Stop” and “Go Your Own Way,” the latter written by Buckingham alone, as well as “The Chain” and “You Make Loving Fun.”
.
As a solo artist, Buckingham has released six studio albums. Last year, he and Christine McVie teamed for a well-received collection of original songs under the banner Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie.
.
Fleetwood Mac is managed by CSM and Suretone Management and booked by CAA.

The 1977 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 returns at No. 16 on Hot Rock Songs.
.
For the second week in a row, a meme helps an older song onto Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart.
.
Fleetwood Mac's Rumours classic "Dreams" enters the tally (dated April 7) at No. 14 thanks to its usage in a meme showing people dancing to the song, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1977.
.
A March 22 tweet from Twitter user @bottledfleet reads, "Fleetwood Mac's music is so boring, you can't even dance to it." It was followed by the counter argument, "Me, an intellectual:," featuring a 38-second clip of a marching band's dance team boogying to "Dreams."
.
The widespread sharing of the tweet -- which had earned over 100,000 retweets and 300,000 likes as of April 3 -- and other similar tweets referencing the meme helped spark the song's 36 percent surge in download sales in the latest tracking week (March 23-29) to 2,000, according to Nielsen Music. Additionally, the song racked up 1.9 million on-demand streams, a 24 percent gain.
.
Fleetwood Mac makes it second appearance on Hot Rock Songs, which began in 2009. Last May, fellow Rumours track "The Chain" hit No. 7 after its inclusion on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack.
.
The resurgence of "Dreams" also benefits Rumours on the Top Rock Albums chart, as the 1977 album jumps 21-13 with 7,000 equivalent album units, up 12 percent. (The set topped the Billboard 200 for 31 weeks beginning April 2, 1977, still the longest reign for an album by a group in the chart's history.)

Fleetwood Mac Documentary "Don't Stop".
.
A bit dated now. This originally aired in the UK just prior to the Unleashed Tour in 2009.
.
The Documentary takes a look back over the band's long career, from the early blues outfit led by Peter Green in the late 1960s, to their reincarnation in the 1970s with the line-up that went on to record the 40-million-selling album Rumours. Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks reveal the truth behind the successes, failures and relationships that have characterised their music and made them one of the most enduring acts in popular music.

Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours,’ Named to Library of Congress’ Registry
.
The Library of Congress announced on Wednesday that it will preserve the recordings of 25 additional artists and personalities in the National Recording Registry, including Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album "Rumours".
.
Under the terms of the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, the Librarian, with advice from the Library’s National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB), is tasked with annually selecting 25 titles that are “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and are at least 10 years old. 👏👏👏👏

“Rumours,” (album), Fleetwood Mac (1977)
Stevie Nicks said: “Devastation leads to writing good things.” It’s little wonder, then, that Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” is so highly regarded, having been forged by the crumbling relationships of every member of the group. In 1974, the then-remaining members of Fleetwood Mac—drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie and his wife, vocalist and keyboard player Christine McVie—found themselves without a male vocalist or guitarist. A chance meeting at a recording studio led to guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks, who were romantically involved, joining the group. The newly formed Anglo-American lineup soon struck gold with their eponymous 1975 album. They should have been on top of the world, but as they began working on their follow-up album, “Rumours,” relationships became so strained that, except as musically necessary, they would barely speak to each other while playing songs about each other. However, because the group had a sense that the songs were so strong, they not only endured, they prevailed. As engineer and co-producer Richard Dashut put it, they wanted to “ … make sure that every song on [“Rumours”] was worth its weight in gold.”
