Reiko Sudo–a renown textile designer and Managing Director of Tokyo based Nuno Corp.–spoke to GFM about Nuno's history, its textiles' use by famed Japanese designers, and techniques used to achieve the desired aesthetics. 
Nuno's fabrics have been incorporated into the works of Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo. Sudo's work was recently featured in the "Scraps" exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and is represented in permanent collections of New York's MOMA and London's V&A Museum. #Japan #textiledesign

The current holiday theme throughout Isetan in Tokyo is origami and wax prints. Life size sculptures of trees, reindeer, and larger-than-life gift bags were displayed throughout the store, along with a photo booth.

Before manufacturing automobiles, Toyota was Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. GFM visited the commemorative museum in Nagoya, which features displays and demonstrations of the company's innovative inventions from the turn of the 20th century, onwards. #museums #japan #loom
This year, after the HK Seminar, GFM continued to Japan. We visited the Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Nagoya for a closer look at the birthplace of just-in-time manufacturing.

The #GFMHongKongSeminar concluded with site visits in mainland China. Here, GFM is at the headquarters for Tangy Collection, which features vegetable dyed canton silk, a material and process the brand describes as celebrating the area's "intangible heritage."
