Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Friday, reiterated his position that President Muhammadu Buhari, the flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 16 Presidential election, remains the best choice for Nigeria to move forward to the next level.

At the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, venue of the Presidential rally, Ambode said President Buhari, in the last three and a half years, had set the nation on a trajectory of reviving its glorious days, adding it was expedient for him to consolidate on the achievements with another term. “The choice before Nigerians is simple: to return to the days of corruption, infrastructural decay and insecurity, or continue with the trajectory of infrastructural development, steady anti-corruption war and the constant fight against territorial threats. This is what the Buhari and Osinbajo ticket represents,” he said.

An explosion and fire in central Mexico killed at least 73 people after hundreds swarmed to the site of an illegal fuel-line tap to gather gasoline amid a government crackdown on fuel theft, officials said.

Hidalgo state governor Omar Fayad announced that the toll had increased to 73 after the discovery of five additional bodies.

The blast — which Fayad said injured 74 people — occurred near Tlahuelilpan, a town of 20,000 people about an hour’s drive north of Mexico City.

The terms “small girl, big God” and “runs girl” are just but two of the many names Nigerians have coined for transactional sex.

The debate on transactional sex is one that has the people divided. While there are those who agree there is a thin line between transactional sex and sex work, some firmly believe it is purely a give and take situation which both parties benefit, while another group believe it is outright sex work.

Grab today’s issue of @guardianlifeng insert of The Guardian newspaper, as a few people share their stories on transactional sex as well as how society generally views it.

Romania’s Simona Halep (R) shakes hands with Venus Williams of the US during their women’s singles match on day six of the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne on January 19, 2019.

Simona Halep defeated Venus Williams 6/2; 6/3; to advance to the quarter-finals and thereby prevented a clash of two sisters, after Serena had outclassed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine 6/2; 6/1.

The world number one player from Romania broke Venus’s serve in the fifth game of the first set. The 38-year multiple Grand Slam winner battled to level in the sixth game but could not convert two break points. In the seventh game, Venus was behind 15-30 on her serve and faced a break point at 30-40 to concede another break.

Halep served out the set 6/2.
Venus lost the first game of the second set but succeeded in breaking Halep right away. She had to stave off two break points before holding to lead 2-1. Games proceeded with serve until Venus lost her service game, for a 4-3 tally. Serving to save the match at 3-5, Venus faced two match points at 15-40 and her opponent held to win the match.

Arsenal's French defender Laurent Koscielny (R) celebrates with teammates after scoring their second goal during the English Premier League football match between Arsenal and Cheslea at the Emirates Stadium in London on January 19, 2019.

Fifth-placed Arsenal closed the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to three points in the race to qualify for the Champions League with a 2-0 win.

Unai Emery's team had lost three of their last six league games, sparking the first criticism of their Spanish manager.

But they tore into London rivals Chelsea, opening the scoring in the 14th minute.

Hector Bellerin's cross found Alexandre Lacazette and the French striker took a touch before smashing a sublime strike past Kepa Arrizabalaga from a tight angle.

The Gunners increased their lead in the 38th minute when Laurent Koscielny mistimed his attempted header, only to see the ball bounce off his shoulder and loop into the net.
