HWB Italy Chapter Coordinator Karin Mecozzi, is hosting a class in her beautiful region of Italy next month:
Where: Monastery of Fonte Avellana (PU)
When: 31 August - 2 September 2018 "Living knowledge of nature - Plants, landscape and senses"

The typical plants of a place, medicinal, aromatic and food, are in close connection with the landscape and with the man. What tools do we have to understand and understand them today, between science and humanism, botany and art? The meeting is dedicated to the study, contemplation and direct experience of the plants and the landscape of Fonte Avellana. The course is theoretical, with lessons, workshops and work in groups. It takes place inside the Camaldolese Monastery of Fonte Avellana and in the wonderful September nature of Monte Catria. For information and registration: karin.mecozzi@aruba.it

Moses Makachia Omukunda of HWB SHWARI founded Shisaba Water Resource Initiative (SHWARI) as a community based, non-profit organization. They work to build permaculture medicinal gardens, community wells, preserve soil and medicinal plants, educate on nutrition and permaculture. He worked to plant vetiver to prevent erosion in June, and this photo is Moses with his students after teaching about medicinal plants and nutrition. #herbalistswithoutborders #eastafrica #kenya #hwbeastafrica #permaculture #inspiring #bethechange

HWB has several groups working in communities in Kenya. Amish women in WI save fabric scraps and cut out the fabric using a pattern. All of that fabric goes to Jenipher, who sews to creates feminine hygiene kits for girls. The kits are re-usable fabric pads with a bag so that the girls can continue going to school during their time of month. Our Board Chair recently shipped sewing machines to Kenya so the kits don’t have to be sewn only by hand.
