The Parsi food of Mumbai, far from its Persian roots, is closer to local Gujarati coastal cooking, featuring indigenous fish, lentils and curries, all accompanied by Indian carb staples – rice and roti (Indian bread). On a leisurely walk through the winding alleys of South Mumbai, we explore the flavours of famous Parsi dishes, from Mutton Keema (spicy minced meat) to Dhansak (a hearty meal of chicken, vegetables and lentils), Patra ni Macchi (steamed fish cooked in coconut chutney, wrapped in a banana leaf) and much more!

On the outskirts of the holy city of Varanasi, lies Sarnath – one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations for Buddhists world over. It is said that Buddha gave his first sermon here, after attaining enlightenment. And the beautifully-carved Dhamek Stupa today stands in the place where he preached. Buddhists come to this massive red-stone stupa to walk around its circumference. As you navigate this area, look out for the Ashoka pillar, commissioned by Emperor Ashoka to commemorate his conversion to Buddhism; and the Ashoka Chakra, India’s national emblem.
