A wonderful library I visited a few days ago in Venice. Since the library sometimes gets flooded, there are books in bathtubs and gondolas inside. The owners have made this beautiful staircase with the books destroyed due to floodings.

Veneto-Italian dictionary! I had a look at it and Veneto dialect seems to have some Spanish influence. There were a lot of Spaniards living here centuries ago and I'm wondering if the dialect was influenced by the Spanish presence in this region. Does anyone know? Besides the Spanish word "calle" is used here instead of "via". However the coolest word I've learned in Veneto dialect is "bombaso" meaning "cotton" :-) .

My new friend Giulia and I. And two new beautiful books in the ugly green bag. Books in Italian. Of course!
In Venice starting my three-week solo travel in Italy. A bit disappointed because Venice is quite a bit too touristy for my taste but it's still very very beautiful! #italian #italiano #italia #italy #sbagliando #speakitalian #learnitalian #learningitalian #polyglot #portuguesetravelling #viaggiaredasola
One of the new French words I learnt while reading La Femme Rompue. Reading is one of the best ways of acquiring new vocabulary, especially when you're not too lazy to look up new words in the dictionary.

I had serious doubts whether I should post it or not but after all this may be the most useful thing I've ever posted. Italian is cruel and these slight differences in pronunciation and spelling are the very proof of it. So when in doubt write the double consonant and pronounce the sound a bit longer because that's probably what you mean! :-D
(Now imagine if you spell/pronounce this sentence wrong: "this year he/she hasn't eaten any penne". I feel like I'm six years old now!). Btw "ano" means "year" in Portuguese... .
