The #Orinoco #goose (Neochen jubata) is in the subfamily #Tadorninae, and is the only living member of the genus #Neochen. It has been proposed as a possible link between the typical #shelducks (#Tadorna) and the #sheldgeese (#Chloephaga), but this remains to be proven.

#Taxonomy #Trivia: Some #scientific names are very descriptive of the #animal. This week, #Cyanochen #cyanoptera. #Cyan, the Latin for #blue. #Chen meaning #goose. And #optera (#wing). So it's a #bluewingedgoose!

Ok... not a good shot at all, but I like the fact our young #whitewingedwoodduck has a favorite spot to #perch. Every morning I find her here. #eaza #esb #endangeredspecies #endangeredbird #goodlookout but #photofail

Two different types of #Australian #wildfowl: Green pygmy #geese (#Nettapus pulchellus) and #Pacific black #ducks (Anas superciliosa). Both quite #rare in #aviculture, yet this photo was made in a non Australian collection. #2005 #sylvanheightsbirdpark

As I am one of the #IWWA boardmembers, I had planned to attend the Annual Board meeting at the Annual conference in the USA. Unfortunately I had to cancel my trip.
Today the Board meeting was held at the first conference day. And for the first time in IWWA's history, it was an improvised #videoconference too!
Tomorrow the Conference continues with a visit to #LivingstonRipleyWaterfowlConservancy to see some #spectacular #waterfowl!
I wish the board of directors and all other members a great stay!
A #Shoveler #duck ID chart, four species in one picture, can be found at our website and on #facebook. It includes both #drakes (males) and females of all four #shoveler species: northern shoveler, #Australian shoveler, #Cape shoveler and red shoveler.
