Happy National Senior Citizen Day!

Did you know?
The Pasadena Senior Center @pasadenaseniorcenter opened in 1960. It was the first independent senior center in Southern California and one of the first independent senior centers in the nation.
It was also the first senior center in California to receive national accreditation from the National Council on Aging.

During the planning stages for the Pasadena Senior Center in the late 1950s, the Junior League of Pasadena provided the necessary funding to hire an executive director who would work with a board of directors to achieve a long-held goal of providing recreational and social services to senior citizens.
The Pasadena Senior Center opened in May 1960 and was the first independent, nonprofit senior center in Southern California and one of the first in the nation. Junior League of Pasadena members contributed thousands of hours to staff the new facility during its first 10 years of operation. In 1998, the Pasadena Senior Center opened its doors after it underwent a transformational renovation that tripled its size.
As a result, the Pasadena Senior Center continues to provide a broad range of life-enriching programs and services that are important to the senior population ages 50 and older. “The Junior League of Pasadena’s incredible legacy of leadership is something we honor every day at the Pasadena Senior Center." - Executive Director, Akila Gibbs (2015)

We're proud of the legacy of our league and the amazing relationships that have been forged through volunteering and helping to support identified needs in the community.
