ACL Rehab: Landing Alignment Biomechanics

Simulating sport-specific movements is a vital component to athlete programming. It's even more important when retraining after a surgery.  Here is a relatively simple progression for ACL recovery.  I wanted the movement to be perfected, so I lowered the height of the obstacle for the jumps onto her right side (surgery side) for now.

Burdenko Method Part 6/6 Strength

For this post, I decided to repost this oldie of me performing 50 pound pistol squats on my right leg, because this video was taken about 2 years after I had ACL surgery on this knee

After surgery, I spent 8 months doing Burdenko Method training 5 days a week, 45 minutes land and 30 minutes in the water.  I was then in even better physical shape than playing college or international soccer because I had developed greater integration of the 6 qualities of fitness: balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance, speed and strength

Very few training styles integrate all of these. 
Yoga: balance, flexibility, strength
Pilates: balance, flexibility, strength
Weights: strength, endurance
Power lifting: strength, speed
CrossFit: strength, endurance
Running: endurance, speed
Sports: coordination + others
Martial arts: coordination, balance, flex, speed

It is important to program the systematic integration of all qualities to enhance performance and prevent injury.

The Burdenko Method Part 5/6 Endurance: 
The Burdenko Method integrates 6 qualities of fitness; balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance, speed & strength.  Here is an exercise that could be interpreted as a speed exercise but when it comes to soccer, speed is endurance. If your fast twitch muscle fibers fatigue, your exposure to injury will drastically rise. 
Things we are working on correcting: excessive hip/knee rotation, knee valgum, arch drop, arm coordination, posture, speed, impact reduction and keeping the foot and hips pointed in one direction.

The Burdenko Method integrates 6 qualities of fitness; balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance, speed & strength.  Here is an exercise that focuses on Balance, but also integrates all of the other qualities. -
Red flags to watch for: hip shift to the side on landing, knee dropping into the middle, losing balance, not being able to keep the lifted knee high enough, lack of arm coordination, lack of height or distance, loud foot landing, minimal hip flexion/excessive knee shock absorption, etc. -
Do you have a trainer who breaks down every movement to optimize performance and reduce injury.  This is how I design and watch every single exercise. -

The Burdenko Method integrates 6 qualities of fitness; balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance, speed & strength.  Here is an exercise that focuses on Speed, but also integrates coordination, endurance and strength. When we do the first set slowly, it also integrates flexibility.  Lastly, by moving both feet simultaneously and equally, it develops balance both anterior to posterior and side to side.
