One of my favourite exercises and one so often done wrong. The key to proper #facepulls solid form, control and external rotation.
If you simply load up a bunch of weight and start explosively yanking the rope back using poor technique and unnecessary momentum, not only are you going to greatly decrease the effectiveness of the exercise by involving your lower back and arms but you could very easily hurt your shoulders in the process as well.

I like to keep the weights moderate and aim for 4 sets of 20 smooth, pause reps, with all of your focus on contracting your rear delts and upper back as intensely as you can, pausing at contraction and really feeling the squeeze as you externally rotate your shoulders (similar to doing a double bicep shot). If you aren’t doing face pulls as part of your weekly routine, I’d strongly suggest you try them out. They’re invaluable when it comes to muscle building, postural and injury prevention and mobility. Alternating lunges (and walking lunges) are great for exposing and fixing imbalances and weaknesses. Everyone has a weak side. In fact, studies have shown that strength differences between limbs can be as high as 25%. Bilateral training allows your dominant side to compensate for your weaker side, hiding imbalances that could later cause injury. 
This is one of the main reasons I'm a huge advocate of unilateral work, aside from the superior level of muscle recruitment and development. Unilateral exercises also recruit the deep stabilizing muscles, developing core strength; a vital aspect in balance and stability, protecting your spine and cultivating integrated, functional strength.
