She's a child living in a concrete jungle but once every week we let her indulge in green sceneries, nature play and rain puddles. It benefits her and our soul, too. .

What an early taxonomy lesson we have here at 6am.
.
We're talking about family of animals and she asked about these questions. Do dogs and wolf belong to the same family (not in video)? Mouse and rat belong to the same family? What family does the lion belong to?
.
.
How do I explain these things to our 3 year old? I better review my biology lessons in high school inorder to answer our daugthers endless questions these days. 😘

"Pag mas big na si Tala, ipaglalaban nya din ang Philippines, parang si Papa" (When Tala is bigger, she will fight for the Philippines, too, just like Papa) 🇵🇭
.
She said this when we told her that Papa @talizsai will be going to Malaysia to compete at the Southeast Asian Games for table tennis this week.

August is Buwan ng Wikang Filipino. Tala's first language is Filipino and she loves speaking in Filipino, insisting we speak it at home, not English coz she's not American/English daw. Sometimes we talk to her in English but more often, we speak Filipino at home. It's kind of sad/ironic that she knows more of the English names for different objects, plants, animals, parts of the body and more stuff than their Filipino name. So I want to be intentional starting this month to teach her the basic names of everything around her in Filipino. Funny, but not really funny, when I asked her "Tala, pakiabot ng lapis" and she asked "Anong lapis, mama?". "Pencil baby" Those are basic words in Filipino and I believe I/we should teach those things to our Filipino children. And more importantly that they love their own language. .

I prepared these beautiful printables (from the net) and showed it to her this morning so we can discuss about time by the hour (since almost everyday she's so keen to know what time is it already). We even practiced numerals 1 to 12 so she can tell 1 to 12 o'clock. However when I showed this to her, her inner artist exclaimed "Wow, ang ganda ng clock, kulayan natin mama". So there it is, our lesson on time-telling will be postponed for now. Coloring time it is for this little star. .

We are reading Roald Dahl this month during bedtime and this my daughters favorite lately.

I had one amusing moment with Tala as I was reading to her and said the word Philip. She butt in, "Mama, Sabi ni Ate ann, Pilip daw'. So I corrected her. "/Filip/ baby. Not Pilip" Then I continued reading. She heard another confusing word: feather. "Mama, fider daw sabi ni Ate Ann". I told her, "It's /feder/, baby". "Mama, punta lang ako kay Ate Ann. Sabihin ko kay ate Ann" . So she went out the room and told Ate Ann. 🤗

Ate Ann is Ilonggo-Bisaya and I am Ilocano and with the English language, we still pronounce some words incorrectly.
I am not a grammar/diction/pronunciation Nazi as we have different accents but if it's people close to me, I believe it's okay to correct them. I still pronounce a lot of words incorrectly and i'm open to corrections. But before we do that, let us connect before we correct. .

My tribe. 💟
Thoughtful conversations with this little one while we're jogging this morning. Convo in Tagalog but translated in English.

T: Mama, before you were just friends with Papa?
M: Opo
T: And then you got married?
M: Opo.
T: Why did you get married?
M: So we'll be together for always and we'll grow old together
T: And then you became my mama and papa?
M: Yes
T: Before, I am just a star in the universe and now I'm the star of Mama and Papa?
M: Yes baby, before you were still in heaven and then God gave you to us.😍🤗💟 .

So many wonderful thoughts running through our daughter's mind, sometimes I cannot keep up. But keep them coming, Miss #talaelise. We'll try our best to answer your endless queries. .

Random conversation with #talaelise while I'm reading this book.

T: "Mama, anong binabasa mo?"
M: "Stones into Schools"
T: "Sino nagsulat?"
M: "Greg Mortenson" (while showing the author in the book)
T: "Bakit ung nagsulat nasa taas ng book. Yung ibang books ko, nasa baba ung name" (very observant of her)
M: "Kasi yan ung gusto nilang design ng book nila, kaya ganyan"
T: "Mama, bakit pag nagbabasa ka, quiet lang? Pero pag tayong dalawa, loud naman."
M: "Para hindi maistorbo ung ibang tao. Loud pag dalawa tayo, kasi di ka pa marunong magbasa and para marinig mo"
Then she scanned my book.
T: "Mama, bakit walang pictures yung book mo?"
M: "Kasi pang-matanda na ung book ko.
T: "Mama, bakit mga books ni Tala madaming pictures?"
M: "Para magustuhan ng mga bata. Di ba mas gusto mo pag madaming colors at pictures"
T: "Opo" and she grinned. .

Everyday i get to answer at least a hundred questions from this inquisitive little star. Someday all my books will be your books and I hope you'll find new knowledge, comfort and joy in those books just like I did. .

I seldom buy new clothes, bags or shoes even if I see them on sale. Being an Ilocano equates to me being frugal. But one thing makes me indulge and giddy all over, when I see that Red Sale Sign: BOOK SALE!

Here's some of my hoard from @booksforless_bookstores. All items for $6. 😁 Happy bookworm here. .
