The holidays bring about lots of yummy holiday coffee beverages and let’s be real, who doesn’t love a peppermint mocha or a caramel brulee latte once in a while? As you all know, I am a #basicbitch and love my Starbucks. But the problem is those holiday drinks are loaded with calories and sugar.

Did you know that a grande peppermint mocha has 440 calories and over 50g sugar?? And a grande caramel brulee latte has 450 calories and 47g sugar!!

So how do I enjoy my Starbucks without completely blowing my nutrition goals?!

Here are a few tips to ordering your holiday drinks for fewer calories:
>>Ask for a basic latte (with almond or coconut milk) >>Ask for 2 pumps sugar free vanilla syrup for the base (can do 3 pumps if you like it sweeter)
>>Ask for 1 pump of the flavor of your choice (caramel brulee sauce, maple pecan sauce, gingerbread sauce, pumpkin spice sauce, or 1 light mocha syrup + 1 peppermint syrup)

This version will save you over 300 calories and roughly 35g sugar depending on the drink.

I HAVE A CONFESSION...

I’m not perfect. I’m human. Even I slip up & fall off track sometimes. 
_________________________________________________

Last weekend I had 5 drinks on Saturday night & 3 glasses of wine on Sunday. 
_________________________________________________

On Saturday I ate half a bag of kettle chips and a good amount of top the tator. 
_________________________________________________

On Sunday I said “fuck it” and didn’t track my food knowing full well I was over my macros (hello coffee cake & homemade bread). _________________________________________________

We all have slip-ups and don’t always make the “best” choices. But I don’t have any regrets about my choices this weekend. Yeah, maybe it set me back a bit from my goals, but I can’t change what I did. I can only change what I do going forward.

So the next day I got my workout in, I logged my food, I drank my water. I controlled the controllables & just kept going forward. Even if you slip up you can always get back on track.

I remember before I got pregnant I would watch other moms & I’d always think... my kid is gonna be so well behaved and never have tantrums. I’m going to teach him to eat all his fruits and veggies & he’ll never eat easy Mac. I won’t be THAT kind of mom.

My kid throws more tantrums than anyone I know... in the middle of Target... because he wants a god damn banana. If you were a passerby you’d probably think I was kidnapping him. No joke.

My kid is THE pickiest eater. The staples in his diet include: pb&j, canned carrots, bananas, cheese & animal crackers. Nothing green. No meat. Limited fruit. He’s basically a walking carb.

Basically, all my thoughts about how I was going to be as a mom were completely opposite from how I turned out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ya win some, ya lose some. At the end of the day I’m 100% happy with the type of mom I am. And I hope you are too!

Whether you’re a Brand new mom or have been a mom for years it’s no secret that making time for yourself is hard.

The first step is recognizing that you need to focus on your health & happiness.
_______________________________________________

The second step is actually being ready to commit to making the changes necessary.
_______________________________________________

The third step is to make a list of all the things in your life that take up your time & energy. 
_______________________________________________

The fourth step is to identify which things on that list do & do not bring you happiness/joy/fulfillment.
_______________________________________________

The final step is to start small by prioritizing your day so that you do one less thing that does not bring you happiness & one more thing that does.

I remember hearing this once when I was newly pregnant. “Enjoy your body while you can, cause it will never be the same”. My immediate thought was “Watch me prove you wrong”. _______________________________________________

And in my opinion, I actually did better...

I’ve done it all from the comfort of my home, working out 30-60 minutes 4-5 days a week. You don’t need a fancy gym or expensive supplements. I eat fish sticks and mac & cheese with Miles and I enjoy my wine on the weekends.

Maaaaybe you ate a bit too much on Thanksgiving. Maaaaaybe you had a few extra pieces of pie or a few too many leftovers over the weekend. Maaaaybe you promised yourself you’d be better on Monday & start eating clean again. And maaaaaybe you ended up eating another treat (or 3) and now you’re feeling defeated, frustrated with yourself and just blah.

Wellllll you’re not alone, sister. The fluff isn’t going to go away overnight, so stop waking up frustrated and start waking up feeling grateful that you have the choice to change your ways.

Old habits die HARD. Like REAL hard. But there’s hope. Accept that you cannot change the past. And acknowledge that you can change what you do going forward.

Start small. Itty bitty if you have to. Pick ONE thing. One stinkin little thing that you want to change. Make a plan and do it. If you don’t feel confident that you can achieve it, then change the goal. Keep changing it until it’s something you can realistically do.

Are you feeling guilty about what you eat yesterday?

I get it. It’s so hard not to sometimes. But let’s keep it real, we can’t change what happened & at that moment you made a choice.

It wasn’t the right or wrong choice, it was just a choice.

And ya know what?! you have the opportunity to make another choice right now.

Are you going to let the feelings of guilt carry into today and potential cause you to fill the emotion with more food?

My top tips for recovering from a holiday:
1️⃣ Get a workout in! Not to “make up” for what you’ve ate, but to USE that food for fuel & have a kick ass workout (which we know will make you feel good too 😁)
2️⃣ EAT!!! Don’t skip or skimp on meals to “make up”. Just eat normal again! Get your protein, veggies and greens in & eat some high fiber carbs. 
3️⃣ Drink some H2O! Hydrate to flush out any bloating you might be having (it WILL go away, I promise).
4️⃣ Do yourself a favor & don’t get on the scale for a few days. Your weight probably went up, and rather than freaking out about it just let it be until you’ve been back on your normal routine for a few days
