The Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussein conducted a working visit to Dubai, UAE on 3rd to 5th July 2019.  Accompanying him was the Permanent Secretary (Energy), Yang Mulia Awg Hj Azhar bin Hj Yahya.

Among the site visits was a tour to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, a single-site solar park with a projected future capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030.  The park is slated to potentially be the largest single-site solar park in the world.

The OPEC and Non-OPEC countries participating in voluntary production adjustments have agreed to continue to cooperate towards the stability of the global oil market.

Yang Berhormat Dato also had the opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Khalid A. Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the sidelines of the meeting to discuss ongoing cooperation between the two nations. .

Organized by UBD’s Centre of Networking, Employment and Training (CoNECT) with the support of the Office of Alumni Relations and Advancement (OARA), the three-day event is being held at the Chancellor Hall from 18th to 20th July 2019.

Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry in his capacity as one of the Directors of Permai Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (Permai) on 16th July 2019 attended the signing ceremony between Permai Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (Permai) as the buyer,  and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd (BSP) as the Seller on the Gas Sales Agreements while the Coordination Agreements is signed between Permai Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (Permai) as the buyer, Brunei Fertilizer Industries Sdn. Bhd (BFI) as the Consumer and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd (BSP) as the Seller  to enable supply of natural gas to BFI’s urea/ammonia plant that is currently under construction at Sungai Liang Industrial Park. The signing ceremony was held at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom at the Empire Hotel and Country Club. Present at the event as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II.

The 2nd Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) was held on 4th July 2019 in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Philippines. The JCM was co-chaired by Honorable Abdulgani M. Macatoman, Undersecretary at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Republic of the Philippines, and Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Tutiaty Haji Abdul Wahab, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Industry) of the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry.

On 27th April 2017, Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Philippines has signed an MOU on Halal Industry and Halal Products Development with the Republic of the Philippines. Under the MOU, a Joint Committee has been established to better enhance the implementation of the activities under the MOU. The 1st JCM was held in Brunei in August 2018, in conjunction with BruHAS 2018, which aimed to develop and promote Halal Industry and Halal Export between Brunei Darussalam and Philippines.

As a sideline to the 2nd JCM, Brunei Darussalam’s delegation took the opportunity to participate the 2nd Philippine National Halal Conference and visited to Halal Food Manufacturer and Free Trade Zone areas in Clark Province managed by Clark Development Coorperation (CDC) and TECO Industrial Park.

The 76th Meeting of ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI-76) and other related meetings were held on 24-28th June 2019 in Bali, Indonesia.  COSTI-76 was chaired by Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, Vice Minister/Undersecretary for Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology, the Republic of the Philippines cum ASEAN COSTI Chairperson.

COSTI also held consultations with a number of its dialogues partners such as with the European Union, Republic of Korea and the United States.  A COSTI Retreat was also held on 28th June focusing discussion on how to better prepare for and fully harness the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Brunei Darussalam’s delegation to the Meeting was led by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Abdul Wahab, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Industry) at the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry. ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI – formerly known as ASEAN COST), was established in 1978.  It  aims to ensure that STI cooperation in ASEAN remains relevant and supportive to the “ASEAN Plan of Action in Science, Technology and Innovation (APASTI) 2016 – 2025” towards a vision of a  Science, Technology and Innovation-enabled ASEAN, which is innovative, competitive, vibrant, sustainable and economically integrated.
