On this day in 1952, Isithwalandwe Chief Albert Luthuli was elected as the 8th President of the African National Congress. He became the first African to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1961, in recognition of his contribution to the fight for human rights and social justice. #ThumaMina

President Cyril Ramaphosa was received and briefed by leadership of the Alliance as he made his way to the family home of Cde Eric Mtshali. Bab’ uMtshali was part of the first group of the Congress Alliance that joined uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) and South African Communist Party.

The Congress movement is at the home of struggle icon Cde Eric “Stalin” Mtshali to bring comfort to his family, friends and comrades. Bab’ uMtshali passed away at the age of 88, after a long illness. He was among the freedom fighters that brought apartheid regime to its knees.
