Just like in 'Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library', local student's had the chance to spend the night in the library and oh what fun they had! Many thanks to Napa Valley Unified School District and Napa County Reads 2017 for making this all possible.

Did you know that Napa County had its very own Film Librarian? As the Napa Valley Film festival kicks off its annual celebrations next week, we wanted to share a little film-related library history.

Janice Charlup was Head of the Film Department at the Napa City-County Library. A transplant from Illinois, Charlup was a graduate of the @PasadenaPlayhouse and appeared in various theatres in Los Angeles before making her home here in Napa. She would go on to facilitate free film screenings and movie based events at Centennial Hall (641 Randolph street) and the Goodman Library building.

Charlup’s “midday movies at the Goodman Library building [were] unique in film and library circles in the Bay Area,” according to a Napa Valley Register article from November 15, 1969. The series, which took place every Tuesday at noon, was completely free of charge and extremely well attended at the time.

Janice Charlup passed away in December 2007, but left behind a legacy of activism and volunteerism. Aside from her career at the Napa City-County Library, she was a former owner of KVON radio station and an active volunteer of both the North Bay Suicide Prevention Program and the Queen of the Valley Medical Center.
