A fun morning doing live shots from 5a-8a with @news12li @christinaregnault at the @hempstead_town animal shelter.
15 cats that were rescued from a hoarder house in Garden City are on their way to a sanctuary in Maryland.
The NCDA donated more than $5,000 in asset forfeiture funds to care for the cats in their new home. Special thanks to @laura.a.gillen @nassaucountyspca for helping to make it all happen.

S.T.O.P. Then Send!
Assistant District Attorney Melissa Scannell recently presented the NCDA’s new S.T.O.P. Then Send program to @girlscoutsnassaucounty Brownie Troop 1735 and Junior Troop 1737.
The program focuses on internet safety – and uses non-threatening examples of online safety questions to teach children from kindergarten to fifth grade how to safely navigate the internet, how to protect themselves and their personal information and how to avoid and react to cyber-bullying. #stopthensend #internetsafety #internetsafetyforkids @nassauda @girlscouts
Nine young people from NCDA’s Youth Court are employed this summer thanks to our partnership with Nassau County’s Summer Youth Job Program! One of those students is Jason, who successfully completed Youth Court and is getting ready for his sophomore year of college this fall.
Today, Jason, DA Singas and County Executive Curran were interviewed by @fox5ny @jodignews about the program. It’s set to air later this month!

School might be out of session, but DA Singas’ School and Community Task Force is hard at work. Thank you to all of the task force members for their efforts to enhance the security of our schools, colleges, places of worship, and public buildings.

Did you know the task force is:
- Exploring the protocols in place at Nassau schools and colleges to share information regarding potential threats with law enforcement
- Assessing the training and support needs of educators, religious leaders, and private security officials at public buildings, including malls, to reduce the threat of a mass casualty event
- Developing recommendations and guidance to ensure that timely disclosures regarding individuals who may be a danger to themselves or others are expeditiously made to the appropriate parties
- Preparing a training curriculum for educators and mental health practitioners regarding the health and safety exceptions to FERPA and HIPPA
- Issuing a public report detailing the Task Force’s findings and recommendations. #schoolsafety #taskforce @nassauda

Skidding cars for education!
@nyspolice skidded cars today as part of the NCDA’s Vehicular Crimes 3-day training course.
Prosecutors and other law enforcement gathered for the presentation that included an accelerometer to measure roadway friction.
