Happy international Children’s day!
The origin of this holiday goes back to 1925, when representatives from different countries met in Geneva, Switzerland to convene the first “World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children”.
This image was snapped by one of the first Greenlandic photographers John Møller in the early 1900’s.
Check out more of his photos on our database qangagooq.gl – link in bio :) #internationalchildrensday #kids #meeqqat #colonial #greenland
Glorious news!
Our online database qangagooq.gl is finally up and running! Over 18000 photos and documents are now available to the public and we keep adding new ones every day!

This was only made possible because of the generous donations made by 15. Junifonden and Dronning Margrethe og Prins Henrik fonden ❤

Something's off. Not quite right. This Saturday, #unnukkulturisiorfik , you can win prizes from both our museum shop and from @nuukartmuseum if you can spot the differences on the portraits printed in the booklet and the masterpieces hanging on the walls.
You have to visit both museums to get it right. We look forward to having a great cultural night with y'all!

Historical records aren't necessarily written. Sometimes they're painted. This harpoon head was archaeologically excavated but hasn't been dated yet. Except, a similar harpoon head was painted, presumably by Salomon van Hauen, in 1654 in Bergen, Norway. So we know that this style was in use in the middle of the 1600s.
The oil painting of the four robbed Inuit belongs to @nationalmuseet

Pictured above is Inuuteq Storch, a photographer from Sisimiut, who is currently here at Nunatta Katersugaasivia to scan and digitize John Møller's work. John Møller was Greenlands first professional photographer and took several thousand photos in the years from 1889 - 1935. These photos still have a high cultural and historical importance and will be preserved for the next generations 📷

School starts again this week! In Greenland the first school day for a child is a special occasion and calls for celebration. These pictures were taken in 1955 in the class room of the first graders in the school in Qaqortoq.
