Today is #WorldPressFreedomDay!
The theme for 2018 is
'Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and The Rule of Law'
- addressing legislative gaps with regard to freedom of expression and information online, and the risks of regulating online speech.

Today the #JointCommittee of @nihumanrights and the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission are meeting in Belfast to discuss the human rights and equality impacts of the UK Withdrawal from the EU - NI Under Secretary of State, Lord Duncan, has joined them for the discussion.

Our colleague attended a workshop on Business and Human Rights in Georgia last week, organised by the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions and the Danish Institute for Human Rights. This was a great opportunity to share experience and good practice with staff from NHRIs across wider Europe, and inform the work we do - especially that of the NI Business and Human Rights Forum.

This week, our Chief Commissioner and CEO have been at the Palais des Nations, Geneva with staff members to attend the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. On Tuesday, they hosted the Annual Meeting of the Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions. We have been the Chair of the Commonwealth Forum since 2015 and this meeting allowed us to hear about the work Forum members have been busy doing!
