Stylists! Do these thoughts ever run through your mind? Or maybe you even said them out loud to your fellow stylist? .
.
Let’s break it down. You have a new guest. All is well! She loves her hair. She pre books 3 appointments. And then she returns for her second appointment. Still somewhat happy, but you’re feeling a little off. She doesn’t give your the reaction like she did the first time and then .... Are you ready for it. She calls and cancels her next two appointments! 😲 Oh SH$$! Let the downward spiral begin. .
.
You start to question yourself. Your work. You run through your entire conversation a million times. You start to think .. Omg she hates me. She hates her hair. She’s never coming back. Now she’s going to write a bad review. You are sick to your stomach. You may have even lost sleep over it. I mean the struggle is real. Have you guys been here? I have quite a few times. We let our mind get the best of us before we even find out what happened. .
.
And then..... you reach out. You call or send an email and guess what? You find out that she loves her hair and loves you. But she is going through something right now, she lost her job and just can’t afford to see you at the moment. But she will be back. .
.
Wow! You just created this whole scenario over nothing. I struggle with this negative self talk so here is my advice. .
1. Take a step back and understand that in most cases it’s not about you. People have so much going on in their own lives that getting their haircut is the last thing they are worried about.
2. If you feel like you make a mistake or you weren’t at your best. Reach out and communicate with your client. Check in on them to see how they are doing. Don’t sit on this for a week and make yourself sick.
3. Cut yourself a break. You’re human. Stop being so hard on yourself. Don’t react and Don’t assume that just because a client cancels it means they hate you and their hair . Give yourself some credit. Follow up with them to ensure they are happy. Believe in talent and be kind to yourself on the regular my friends. Tag a friend! .

Skipping through life like......😎
.
.
But seriously let’s talk! A few of the questions I am asked are ....how do I make it in this business? How do I build my book? Why is it that some people make it and others don’t? .
.
Well I have a million answers to all these questions. But I’m going to dive deep into one that I learned a long time ago! .
.
It’s all about who you surround yourself with my friends! Ever hear the saying... you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with! .
.
This is hard I know. Because at some point when you start to grow. You will lose some people along the way. As your goals change, as the vision for your life changes, your people will either grow with you or try to bring you down! .
.
So I want you to do this! Take a hard look at who you spend the most time with. Are they supportive? Are they encouraging? Do they lift you up? Or are they an anchor? My mentor always said... surround yourself with the people you aspire to be! Boom. My mindset was changed for life.
And it may be time to change yours. Who are you skipping through life with? .
.
@itsmrjladner I love you! You are straight love and light my friend! ❤️

A mission statement is so important for your business. Tune in to find out why.
Let’s chat about this for a second. We are in a service based business. And it truly is about the way you treat people and make them feel. .
.
Stylists! When a guest comes in and sits in your chair. It’s all about them. And it really needs to be about them. Not about you. The mindset behind this should always be how can I Serve you today. How can I make this entire experience about you. .
.
Salon owners! When you lead a team of people. The most important thing is growing them, guiding them, coaching them. The mindset for you would be..... how can I serve you today. This doesn’t mean they get to walk all Over you. It means you both show up as promised. It’s leadership. .
.
When you are sharing posts on insta. Your entire page should not only be photos of your work. It’s not about look at me, look what I can do. It’s about look what I can do to serve you today. New guests want to be educated, they want to see the benefits of your work yes. But they also want to see the value you bring to the table. And that comes from serving them every minute they are in your chair. .
Please don’t allow your ego to be the driving force behind the way you show up and treat your guests and your team! .
.
To this day, in my business. I am here to serve you. That’s my job as a leader. I am here to encourage you, empower you, and guide you to be the best version of yourself. I am of service to you my friends and that will never change. .
.
“If serving others is beneath you, than leadership is beyond you.”

So much love to you my friends! 💗
Is this industry, things are changing on the regular! If you are a stylist or owner that is doing the same things you have been doing 5,10,15 years ago. You may be falling behind when it comes to growing your Business and giving your guests exactly what they are looking for. Here are some areas to focus on and maybe start to think about making some changes! .
.
1. Guest experience- The things that clients were looking for years ago and what they want today are totally different. Today your clients come to the salon, way more educated and informed on color trends and how they want to be treated. A good haircut and a smile just won’t cut it any more. Today you have to go above and beyond in terms of service. This means a hug or a handshake, longer consultations, educating them along the way, talking about a maintenance plan, getting them pre booked, pampering them the entire time, aaannnddd following up with them after they leave! .
2. Technical skills- If taking a class every 6 months was what worked for you years ago, I hate to break the news. The number 2 reason clients leave the salon is because they get bored. Don’t assume that little Susie wants to be a 7N for the rest of her life. Come to the table offering new ideas and educate her on new trends that will work for her. Continued education keeps you fresh and on point yes. But it also allows you to provide your clients with a level of technique that will make you a stand out behind the chair. .
3. Be the expert- If you aren’t taking charge behind the chair and positioning yourself as the expert you are totally missing out. Clients want your professional opinion. They want to be told what looks best on them. They want you to tell them when they should schedule their next appointment! Be confident and guide your clients every step of the way. .
Change is a good thing. Change is a necessary thing. Especially in this business!
Happy Saturday ❤️ tag a friend!

.
Welcome @jessdeehair to the No Stylist Left Behind Podcast. 🔥💗.... You definitely want to tune into this one!
Aaah yes! Learning to say no! It’s actually one of the top five things that leaders must do in order to stay happy and healthy!
.
.
This can be utilized behind the chair as well! I’m a big believer in saying yes to your clients, but you still have to have boundaries. Maybe you don’t stay late on Friday’s, or come in early on Tuesdays because you spend the morning with your kids before school. What do these boundaries look like for you? .
.
So let me ask you this! Do you have a hard time saying no? In business and just in life in general? Are you doing things just to please other people? .
.
🙋🏻‍♀️I used to be this way, but learned over time that saying no to others, meant I was actually saying YES to myself!
.
.
Be sure take take care of yourself first. So you can properly take care of your team, your clients, and your family. .
.
Have a kick ass day!❤️ N
