Of course this is a loaded question. Your campaign may have reached your whole town, you may have got 10k likes on your Facebook ad, it seemed everyone in your area was talking about you.

But of course the real question is: Did it transfer into admissions and sales?

It's easy to report on how many people your marketing reached but have you looked deeper? WHO did it reach?

We recently rescued a client who's social media was in a sorry state. Adverts were going out and admissions were doing well. However, looking deeper into these old adverts, we found that they were marketing to 65+ year olds. Not great for a nightclub! After sorting out their advertising, admissions have increased and we're spending less on advertising!

Do you check on what drinks are being sold? Do these drinks fit into your drinks deals? Are you doing yourselves out of sales?

Let's strip it back to the basics for a minute.

Happy customers mean more repeat business, word of mouth promotion and ultimately more money.

End game: keep your customers happy. You've put a lot of effort into your marketing to get them here after all!

BUT....
What if you have a moody barman?
Or a lightjock that can't be bothered?
Or a DJ who's having an off night?
Or the brewery didn't send enough stock?
Or a couple of lights are flickering?
Or two toilets are out of order?

These are things that CANNOT HAPPEN.

They may seem trivial and easy to fix but for the one time these things are broken, they will effect the chain of events and your customers won't be happy.

80% of people head straight to the bar. Your moody barman will immediately bring the mood down of everyone he/she serves.

The lightjock is as important to the mood and energy of the night as the DJ is. If either of these people are having an off night, you won't reach your full atmospheric potential.

Make sure your team has the right attitude.

When a customer wants to order their favourite drink and you don't have it, it causes disappointment. They have to settle for second best. Does your competitor have that drink in stock? You don't want to have to make your customer find out.

Ever heard of the broken window theory? The theory that if one window is left broken, it will encourage more windows to be broken. If you don't care about your business, why should the public? If you're trying to get someone to buy a £150 bottle of vodka but you won't replace a £1 lightbulb, things have gone seriously wrong!

And the toilet thing? Who wants to have to wait to go to the toilet? It's said that you are most judged by the state of your toilets. Make sure they are perfect!

Make sure your venue and your staff are giving 100% at all times. Look after your customers and they will look after you.

Quality content goes beyond the actual content, it's how you present that content to the world!

A mobile screenshot of a funny post uploaded to your Facebook, showcasing your network service provider, the time and the fact your awful iPhone battery is about to die, is not going to cut it!

A low resolution image from a Google image search, with a stock image company's watermark plastered across it, uploaded to your Instagram, is not going to cut it!

The same can be said for your print design. There's nothing worse than blurry or pixelated images on your flyers!

Bespoke design not only means you will be able to match your branding across your marketing, but everything will be given in the right format, fit for purpose.

Identifying your USP (Unique Selling Point) and building your marketing around it will show your customers that you can offer something they can't get anywhere else. They must come to you or go without!

This is, of course, assuming you have a USP! We know many venues and businesses that are churning out the same as everyone else!

If you haven't got a USP, luckily, it's not too hard to create. Have a look at what your competitors are doing and more importantly, what they're NOT doing. Find out where your customer base fits in with this. The more market research you undertake, the better your result will be.

We understand more than anyone that funny pictures may increase your reach and interaction on your social media but unless it's converting to sales, why do it?!

By being the one with a clear and concise message, linked with some smart branding, you can stand out from the crowd without having to shout.

A simple message is easier to pick up and remember than a load of jargon that your customers aren't going to understand, or even care about!

Smart and thoughtful branding will help you do this. If you scroll through our posts, you can pretty much get the gist of the message by reading the pink highlighted words. This is completely down to how we market ourselves!

Send your message to your customers in a seemingly simple way. We use Instagram as our main platform and it's easy to get all of our messages in one place. That's not to say your business should do the same thing, but your customers should be expecting to see your message on the platform they use. And know where to go to find it!
