Love is a theme central to many ballets, and today we celebrate love in its many forms.
Some unlikely pairings, some fiery romances, some fairy-tale endings, some tragic, and some celebrating the love of family. Scroll through for some of the love stories you’ll see on stage through our QB18 season:
Prince Solor and the bayadère (temple dancer), Nikiya, whose love transcends life in La Bayadère.
The fiery tryst between toreador, Escamillo, and the gypsy, Carmen.
The heart-breaking love story of Swan Lake’s Odette and Prince Siegfried.
The fairy-tale romance between Cinderella and her Prince Charming.
Bottom and Titania, two in the tangled love story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Our wardrobe department are busy creating La Bayadére costumes! Did you know there are 28 Shades tutus in the production, and each one takes approximately 70 hours to create!! Our Head of Wardrobe and Resident Designer, Noelene Hill estimates we will use a massive 380 metres of tulle by the time the show goes on! 😱😱😱

The Secret Life of Costumes with Queensland Ballet is coming up on Friday 2 February. This special event at Museum of Brisbane will reveal the life cycle of dance costumes, in a talk with QB's Wardrobe Production Manager and Resident Designer Noelene Hill, and Museum of Brisbane Collections Coordinator Meg McKavanagh.⠀
