This weekend, we completed an incredible feat at our 2+U development project in downtown Seattle—an 11,000-cubic-yard concrete mat pour. That’s enough concrete to fill up 35 million coffee cups, roughly, 50 cups of coffee for every resident of Seattle! #CRE #office #engineering #retail #mixeduse #Seattle #coffee #PNW #concrete #development #downtownseattle
This is what a successful demolition looks like! This weekend, our team conducted a controlled demolition to bring down the old Kosciusko Bridge for the State of New York through a process called energetic felling. On October 1, 2017, a series of 944 individually shaped small charges were detonated to sever select structural members of the bridge, allowing the 25,290 tons of steel that comprised the remaining structure to collapse on itself. This followed the successful lowering of the 2,400-ton main span of the former bridge in August. Prior to the demolition, the Skanska-led joint venture celebrated the opening of the first of two new bridges that will replace the former #KosciuszkoBridge. #KBridge #engineering #demolition #infrastructure #construction #NYC
In honor of World Green Building Week 2017 (#WGBW17), we are proud to highlight two of our #LivingBuilding projects, which take sustainability to the next level—encompassing this year’s #OurHeroIsZero theme. Bertschi School and Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Brock Environmental Center both meet the Living Building Challenge’s #netzero environmental impact. #greenbuilding #sustainability #buildingwhatmatters #green #construction
And up it goes! This week, we erected the final of the 2,741 precast concrete pieces of the West Parking Garage at our LaGuardia Central Terminal B project. Work will continue with the interior fit out including electrical, plumbing and elevator systems, and the parking garage is slated for completion in January 2018. #LGA #Aviation #Concrete #NYC #Engineering #Construction #P3
Today, we celebrate the completion of Elizabeth River Tunnels, our first #p3, one year ahead of schedule. Thank you to everyone for your amazing work. We are proud to deliver this award-winning project to Virginians! #tunnels #infrastructure #virginia #buildingwhatmatters
Our #121Seaport is now 100% leased, signifying #SeaportDistrict’s arrival as one of Boston’s most sought-after submarkets and business destinations. Last week, we announced that global tech company PTC will be occupying 250K square feet, and today, we announced that global biopharmaceutical company Alexion will be occupying 150K square feet of the state-of-the-art, elliptical office tower. #121Seaport is located in the heart of Boston’s booming Seaport District, across from District Hall and Seaport Square Green, on Boston’s most sustainable block, which is also home to Skanska’s #101Seaport and #WatermarkSeaport developments. #121Seaport was the site of the #SeaportShipwreck discovery. #CRE #Boston #Sustainable #Office #Pharma #Alexion #RealEstate #Seaport #BostonSeaport #Sustainable
Our team at the 2+U development in downtown #Seattle completed #excavation operations, removing 120,000 cubic yards of soil and rock and installing 130 soldier piles, 530 tie backs and 55,000 square feet of lagging to create the framework for the installation of the 2+U foundation. #CRE

After 25 years of talk about turning the main post office in Manhattan into an extension of Pennsylvania Station, construction is about to get underway. Next week, workers will shift from demolishing sections of the 105-year-old James A. Farley Building to transforming it into a grand train hall for passengers of @amtrak and the @mtalirr. The $1.6 billion project is one of several high-cost improvements to New York’s transportation system championed by @nygovcuomo, who has made transforming the region’s infrastructure into a central focus of his tenure. On a tour of the building this week — photographed here by @hollypickettpix — the governor compared it favorably to Grand Central Terminal, which is generally considered one of the country’s most awe-inspiring public spaces. “Architecturally, you could argue this is going to be even more powerful than Grand Central,” he said. Critics may not agree, but there’s little doubt that it would be an improvement. “That shouldn’t be the first thing you see of New York, coming through the old Penn Station,” @nygovcuomo said. When the new train hall opens, which is expected in late 2020, he said, “This will be an entrance befitting New York.”
Say hello to Angeli, the Tunnel Boring Machine who just finished boring the first #tunnel at our @MetroLosAngeles joint venture Regional Connector project, a 1.9-mile underground transitway in downtown Los Angeles. The #TBM will be disassembled and taken to mine an adjacent tunnel this fall. The Regional Connector project will transform #LA transit with quicker commutes, reduced congestion, and more connected communities. #transportation #infrastructure #engineering #LosAngeles #BuildingWhatMatters #dtla
And here it goes! Former #KBridge being floated by & taken to be recycled. Yesterday, as part of our #KosciuszkoBridge Phase 1 project, the main span of the former K Bridge was lowered onto a barge to be taken away as part of an overall New York State Department of Transportation project to replace the bridge with two new cable-stayed bridges. Steel cables were used to lower the span approximately 125 feet – an estimated 20 feet per hour – onto the barge. #engineering #bridge #NYC
Here is the main span of the former Kosciuszko Bridge being lowered onto two barges to be taken away. The main span is 300 feet long, 89 feet wide, and 50 feet tall at its highest point; weighing in at 5 million pounds. The new #KBridge will include two new state-of-the-art, cable-stayed bridges. We built the first of these, which opened in April. #Bridge #Infrastructure #Engineering
