Happy National Donut Day!!!🍩💗🍩💗🍩

These are gluten free, dairy free, vegan donuts...with icing made out of beets😳 Don’t tell the kids...they freaking LOVE them🤣
.
I hate the idea of “good food” and “bad food” that is so prevalent in the health & fitness world.
.
Newsflash: FOOD IS FOOD! There is literally NO moral value attached to it! It is not good or bad, and it does not make YOU good or bad.
.
Do I think we can encourage healthier choices, and teach our kids how to make those choices? ABSOLUTELY!
.
But guess what happens when certain foods are “bad” or “forbidden”??? Hello late night binges or feelings of intense shame or guilt around food😩🙈
.
We like to make healthier versions of some fun foods, and the kids like to get involved too! It’s a fun thing to do together as a family...and then we get to enjoy them together too🤗
.
I bought the ones in the pic, because National Donut Day totally flew under my radar...but when we make our own, these are our favorites...

They aren’t forbidden, they’re not “bad”, they are just food. And I promise, the more you work to normalize “fun foods” like this, the less out-of-control or guilt/shame you will feel around them! After all, food freedom is what we’re after, right??

Made a batch today, but I’m not sure we can wait for breakfast tomorrow!

Thought I’d share the recipe, in case you need some yummy healthier breakfast ideas👊🏼
.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup rolled oats (uncooked)
1/4 cup flour (wheat, almond, coconut, whatever kind of flour you use)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
2 eggs
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup chocolate chips
.
1. Preheat oven to 350 and line a 8x8 pan with parchment paper.
2. Mix oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
3. Mix melted coconut oil, eggs, maple syrup, peanut butter and vanilla until combined.
4. Pour wet ingredients into the dry and mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
5. Spread the mixture into the pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before cutting into bars. Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3-5 days.
It’s the first Monday of summer and I decided to try something new with the kids! You know, just something to get them up and moving (and away from screens for a while)! This may be a good thing to try if your kids are like mine and would be happy to just sit in front of the TV alllll summer🤯

This morning I designed a little circuit workout together - 3 circuits, 3 exercises each. We warmed up with a walk, then a run, and we incorporated each of their sports into the workout. We had so much fun!
.
And it was fun for me…I really do miss teaching bootcamps sometimes, so this gave me a chance to do some of that while sowing into my kids and making it fun for them. And of course I was encouraging and cheering them on the whole time!
.
This will definitely be happening more over the summer! Just a fun way to get them moving, and a great way to spend some good family time together.
.

It’s ok if you fall down sometimes. In fact, it’s expected.

They don’t tell you that part, do they??🤔

We don’t become great by never falling. We become great by falling and getting back up...falling and getting back up...falling and getting back up.
.
Again and again.
.
Just like when our kids are learning to walk! We don’t yell at them or call them stupid when they take their first steps and then fall!
.
We cheer for them, hug and kiss them, celebrate them!
.
And each time they fall, their legs get STRONGER! Each time they wobble, their ankles get stronger! Each time they stand back up, they get better!!!
.
And the same is true for you.
.
You may see falling as failing...but it’s actually part of the process of success.
.
That’s how you get stronger. That’s how you learn.
.
So yes, you will fall. But keep standing back up, and you WILL succeed.
.

Did you take time to take care of you today?

It doesn’t have to be an intense, hour-long workout, or a massage or pedicure, or something that requires time or money or a lot of planning. .
Your self-care could be as simple as some yoga or a quick HIIT workout, or a nice walk in the sunshine while you listen to a podcast or your favorite music, a hot bath after the kids go to bed, or a few minutes to just relax and read or watch your favorite show.

It doesn’t take long, but things like this really can give you that boost you need to get through your day and to bring you peace throughout the day. .
I like to start my day by making some time for the things that are important to me, like my devotional. It helps me start the day right. But it doesn’t happen automatically...I have to be intentional about it and make that time for myself!
.

I so get that… I mean, the day can get crazy...especially during the summer when the kids are out of school. I get it. TRUST ME😳 But what if you began to develop a morning routine that gave you some time to take care of you and brought a little bit of PEACE into your day, as soon as you open your eyes in the morning??

👉🏼Do a morning devotional
👉🏼Listen to a motivational video while you make your coffee
👉🏼Do yoga
👉🏼Do a short workout
👉🏼Do something that gets your mindset in a good place to start your day

A simple post can’t even come close to expressing how I feel on a day like today. Took me all day to try but it’s impossible.

Overwhelming gratitude mixed with a heavy heart.

Gratitude for the life so many have given us.  Sadness for those that waited anxiously to hug their loved one but never had a chance to. It’s always overwhelming to me that myself and my family live in freedom because others gave it all. .
