And one more, for my actual twin in t-shirt taste, not in hair color, but in the kind of brain that sits underneath it, @laurabrown99. That means a wicked filthy sense of humor, a penchant for loud laughter, and the deep appreciation of a very, very cold tequila concoction that shall remain our secret for now. But hey, make us laugh and we may let you in on it 😎 Laura, you’re a gem. A legend. And @instylemagazine is so lucky to have you. You’re the baddest ass badass of them all #InStyleBadassWomen #InStyle25
Still on my Kelly Kapowski shit. So let’s hit The Max ⚡️ shall we? 90’s babies forever. #InStyleBadassWomen #KellyForever

Thanks for the 90s vibes of my dreams, team @amberdmakeup @clarissanya
I always had a crush on Kelly Kapowski. So to be told we’re twinning REALLY feels like a moment for me 💞 #KellyForever #InStyleBadassWomen @xkarla
[part 1] On Saturday I had the honor of speaking at @everytown @momsdemand @studentsdemand #GunSenseForum in Des Moines, #Iowa.

I spoke as a concerned citizen, a gun owner, a hobbyist, and a woman whose family has been affected by a mass shooting. Make no mistake, I understand the issue from all sides. And the issue? This is a public health crisis. People are dying in the streets because our leaders are too cowardly to act. America has 122 guns for every 100 people. No other nation on Earth comes close. Next in line, at 40?? Yemen. A war zone.

The issue is not mental health. The issue is easy access to guns. Period. All of the data proves this, and we’d have even more if our government wasn’t REFUSING to allow the CDC to study gun violence. That should be a clue. They want to deny us overwhelming information because it’s a bad truth for them the lobbyists who control them.

Foreign countries are issuing warnings, urging their citizens not to travel here because it’s become too dangerous.

Walmart is taking imagery of guns off the shelves, and video games that are played by the rest of the world to no increase in shootings anywhere else, but they won’t stop selling guns. They had the nerve to place a sign over a glass case filled with rifles that reads “OWN THE SCHOOL YEAR LIKE A HERO.” What the fuck does that even mean? It would be laughable if it weren’t so damn sad.

A Fox News poll released today shows: - 90% of Americans support requiring criminal background checks on ALL gun buyers
- 81% support passing "red flag" laws that allow police to take guns from people shown to be a danger to themselves or others
- 67% banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons

Imagine how high the numbers go among a bi-partisan audience! A measure that would handle these issues has already passed the house, and is stalled because of #MoscowMitch McConnell. We all need to pressure him and other Senators to reconvene the Senate immediately and vote on these gun-control measures. Have the vote! Do what your constituents want! (Continued...)
[part 2] I also had the honor of listening to — and spending one on one time with — virtually all of the Democratic candidates at the #GunSenseForum. They all made brilliant points.

From @kamalaharris pointing out that Trump — who has been cited as a motivation for violent crime BY violent criminals 36 times in 2.5 years (for the record, both Bush and Obama were cited ZERO times in domestic terrorism attacks) and has been cited more times in attacks on our homeland in the last three years than any other person or organization on earth — may not have pulled the trigger but “he’s certainly been tweeting out the ammunition” to these domestic terrorists. To @pete.buttigieg rightly pointing out that we have already drawn a line when it comes to the right to bear arms. “Somewhere between a water balloon and a predator drone, we drew a line. The line needs to move.” He agrees, as most folks with his type of military background do, that weapons of war have no place on our streets. @kirstengillibrand, @elizabethwarren, @juliancastrotx, all made BRILLIANT points about the realities facing our communities across the country. As did @corybooker And @betoorourke, who couldn’t be there but still took the time to send in videos in support. Not one person from the GOP attended, or weighed in. Perhaps because they’ve been bought and paid for to the tune of $36.6 million (contributed to Trump alone) by the NRA. They may control the senate now, but WE HAVE THE POWER to VOTE THEM OUT and at least TRY harder for our kids and our communities. And try we must.

We do not have to live like this. We do not have to die like this.

Let’s clean it up already.

Thank you to the candidates for showing up and speaking truth to power. The Moms and Dads and survivors for showing up for those who can’t. To @mspeters14 for letting me share the stage with you and be a witness to your story. Thank you to my soul brother @kennyjamez, for hopping a flight with me and using your photo skills to capture the energy of a room full of people determined to make change. And to @everytown @momsdemand @studentsdemand for advocating so tirelessly and fearlessly for a better future for all. #EnoughIsEnough
Toni. Beloved. The name of one of my favorites of all of her books. The name that best describes her for so many, too. She touched the very core of countless hearts.

“We die,” She once said. “That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.”

How does one write something halfway decent enough to commemorate one of our greatest writers? I don’t know how. But I will ruminate on her courage, her poignancy, and her gift for challenging us to be better. She told her students — and thus taught us all — “When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else.” Indeed.

And she reminded us, with perfect clarity, not to ever give into inaction. No matter what we might be up against. “This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.” For her, let’s get to work. #ToniMorrison

These are all FACTS. Swipe through. Read the article (link also in my bio). Enough is enough. ENOUGH. IS. ENOUGH. https://everytownresearch.org/gun-violence-america/ My heart is broken for the families in #ElPaso. This is #DomesticTerrorism. White supremacy is terrorism. Period.
Think this weekend can top last weekend, @sarahelabdi? I do! Love you being here. Never leave k? Great talk. 💖
“The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see.” Happy 95th Birthday, #JamesBaldwin ♥️

May we, as he taught us, make ourselves and those around us more conscious in all ways. We could all use that. Our country could use it too. On her, he said it best ... “I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.” Indeed.
I am beyond excited for the premiere of #TIMELINES, a docu-series by my friend @katiecouric and @skii. She travels the world to sit down with women and discuss expectations. In particular, the disconnect that can exist between expectations and dreams. And through the experience, we get to ask what kind of understanding we might be led to, seeing the vastness of the disconnect between them? How do we navigate the expectations of those who love us? Of our own? How do we move — in this ever evolving world — between the desires and pressures around degrees, careers, family, marriage, sexuality, and our futures? Having watched the episodes, I find myself marinating on big ideas. What does freedom mean to us? To the generation before us? To those coming after? What does writing our own rules look like? How do we take control of our own timelines? I cannot wait for you all to see this, head on to @skii to see more. And I’m so glad that a big brand like SK-II has chosen to help fund this project and allow so many of us to come together to hash out the answers to the questions we’ll be asking after watching! My journalism loving, deep-dive-obsessed brain is firing on all cylinders with this one and I’d love to hear what you think in the comments! Well done team #ChangeDestiny #skiipartner
