For over four decades, Roger Cador stood as a towering icon in the landscape of black college baseball, bringing national prominence to Southern University’s Baseball program. This weekend, his years of services and lasting impact on the game Baseball and the state of Louisiana will be honored as he is inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, LA. Congratulations, Coach Cador and Thank You for the many memorable moments you have provided during your time on The Bluff as a Defender of the Gold and Blue.
After leading the Jaguars in hitting and a standout 6-for-6 performance in the Starkville Regional against Mississippi State and Miami, Southern University centerfielder Javeyan Williams was selected in the 22nd round (656 pick) by the San Fransisco Giants in the 2019 MLB Draft Wednesday. Southern University battled Mississippi State in the opening game of the Starkville Regional Friday afternoon but the Jags upset bid fell short as MSU broke open a 6-6 tie in the seventh and won 11-6. Tyler LaPorte continues to rake in the hardware after a stellar 2019 campaign. LaPorte was named to  Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I All America 3rd Team Thursday ahead of the Jaguars matchup with Mississippi State in the Starkville Regional.
LaPorte has already claim the SWAC’s Player of the Year and Tournament MVP award.

Southern University Athletics will host a NCAA Baseball Selection show watch party on Monday morning at The Grind GastroPub as the 2019 NCAA Baseball Regionals are revealed on ESPNU.

Doors to the watch party open at 10 a.m. and fans will have the opportunity to meet members of the  2019 SWAC Championship Baseball team and coaching staff prior to the regionals being announced live on ESPNU.

Southern is making the program’s ninth overall NCAA Baseball Championship appearance and first NCAA Baseball Regional since 2009 when the Jaguars entered the Baton Rouge Regional as a four seed against host LSU.

Southern has amassed a 3-16 tournament record, holding the distinction of being the first HBCU to win in the postseason after stunning top seed Cal-State Fullerton 1-0 in 1987.

All 16 regionals will be revealed at 11 a.m. during the ESPNU special.
