Southern University Athletics mourns the death of former SU and NFL legend Isiah “Butch” Robertson, who died Thursday night in a car crash near Mabank, Texas. Statement for SU Athletics Director Roman Banks: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Isaiah Butch Robertson. “Butch” embodied the spirit of Southern University and represented this institution with class and dignity everywhere he went. Our thoughts and prayer are with the Robertson family during this difficult time.” Robertson, who was a first round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 1971, was a four time All-Pro Selection and a six-time Pro Bowler. His career at Southern from 1967-1970 coincided with the careers of NFL greats Mel Blount, Rich Jackson, and Harold Carmichael.

Breaking News: The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced Wednesday its relocating the Dec. 1 Championship game from Birmingham to the campus of the team who finishes in first in the standings. Southern University, who sits atop the SWAC West division, is in contention to host the championship game behind Alcorn State, who currently holds the head-to-Head tiebreaker over SU.
