After going 12-16 at the plate and leading the Jaguars to a 3-0 sweep of rival Grambling, Hunter David was announced as the SWAC Hitter of the Week Monday. Southern is set to play five games in the next six days starting Tuesday against New Orleans.
Southern AD Roman Banks joins former SU Baseball alum Calvin Beal and SU Baseball in celebrating Baseball Alumni Weekend at the DONALD C Wade House. Our special guest for the evening are MacVea Griffin and Henry Triplett, two members of the 1959  NAIA National Championship team who were honored during today’s game in honor of the 60th anniversary of their historic win. The 1959 team, led by future MLB Hall of Famer Lou Brock, defeated Omaha 10-2 in the title game on June 6, 1959. Today, Griffin and Triplett tossed out the first pitch for Game 2 of the Grambling series and watch SU rally to win 15-13 and take the series.

The Jaguars are on the road headed to Starkville for Friday’s opening round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The game airs live on ESPN and ESPN3. Jaguar fans can listen to the SU Broadcast on and Heaven 1460 AM.
For fans interested in making the trip, the SU 6th Man Club is sponsoring a charter bus to Starkville that will leave Friday at 1 p.m. from the East Baton Rouge City Police station on 4523 Plank Road. Admission for the bus trip is $65 and does not include the game ticket, which is $35 dollars and can be purchased at the arena. To sign up, fans are asked to contact 225-907-7952.
