When it comes to speed there are heaps of dimension e.g. speed of thought, reaction time, launch time, evaluation or decision time as well as actual speed between to points once you hit your pace.
You’ll always be somewhere in these different steps no matter what kind of speed we’re talking about: i) perception ii) evaluation iii) decision iv) action
So, evidently there are heaps of elements and parts of each step where one can improve speed.
To improve one need to decide on what part to improve and practice that part isolated through deliberate practice. Do you know where or on what part you need to improve your speed? This exercise using Fitlight will help you with split time feedback on what part to improve, together with visual direct feedback from video one can self analyze what to improve.
Depending on what position you play in football you may want to reconsider where to invest some extra effort to improve your speed.

General rule for speed ladders: if it’s a new exercise, then it’s naturally better to go slow and do everything right. With the progression principle increase your speed after a while. The real trick is to change exercise when you’re at a mastery level or add another dimension e.g. fitlights.
I’ve been working with Sascha all winter in two dozen different speed ladder exercises. He picks up quickly and goes to mastery within the course of the exercise. The fitlights will challenge him to stay on top, but also to keep it interesting.
Speed ladders’ main purpose is coordination of great footwork and speed thereof. I will come back to how to use speed ladders to improve agility.
In this particular exercise it’s important to get your balance right in every quick stop. So, when Sascha stops, he stops with the weight on the fot in the direction the mass is headed, then he controls he’s balance and shuts the light in good balance with his other foot.
If a player has an issue with receiving the pass on the foot furthest away, this is a great exercise for that player. I hope you enjoy this one.
I stole it online and can’t remember the source unfortunately.

eye-hand coordination on indoboard with fitlight triggering reaction maintaining balance. balance board in combination with e.g. bouncing a ball at the same time has been used to reduce stress and therapy for neurological damages of different kinds.
adjust number of lights to get an optimal leg work out, continuously balancing maintaining a low position for a long time.

here’s a simple drill focusing on a couple of components in great footwork: reaction time, speed, accuracy and coordination using random lights. to maintain optimal balance, the knee should be straight over the toes & chest straight over the knees.

balance is an ability to maintain the line of gravity (vertical line from centre of mass) of a body.(1)
maintaining balance requires coordination of input from multiple sensory systems. (2)
balance is the foundation to build upon to improve speed, agility & coordination. we will look at how one can improve in these areas through deliberate practice with focus on motivation, occasion & effort.
