Mahaweli Maha Seya 🙏🏾
Sri Lanka's second largest Stupa (289 ft) after Ruwanwaliseya is located in Kothmale. The stupa was built in commemoration of over 50 submerged temples and the people who lost their properties as a consequence of the Mahaweli development program in the early 1980s. Then Minister of Mahaweli development Gamini Dissanayake was the man behind the idea as the foundation was laid by former president J.R Jayawardene in 1983.
