Are you done with aimlessness? Have you been going through the motions long enough? Live on purpose. _____________________________________________

Jesus has good things planned for your day… people for you to meet, prayers for you to pray, gifts for you to give. You don't have to make your day interesting or exciting when you have a day already prepared for you. ____________________________________________

Listen to the soft promptings of the Holy Spirit to find what he has prepared for you. It's like going on a treasure hunt. Enjoy the adventure of listening and responding to the voice of God in your day. ____________________________________________

Don't make things up. You don't have to. You are God's workmanship. You were created to do great things. And it's all been prepared for you. ____________________________________________

Just watch and listen. Now follow. This is how Jesus lived. ____________________________________________

Do you remember going outside for recess as a child? All the kids line up, teams are chosen. Where did you stand in that picture? Were you the captain, chosen first, somewhere in the middle? Or were you picked last. Well, you weren't really chosen. You were the last person standing. So a particular team had to take you. ____________________________________________________

Some people feel that way with God. They feel like an after-thought… like God had to pick them. They do not sense the personal initiative God has toward them. The truth is, however, that God was thinking about you before the creation of the world. His choosing of you was incredibly premeditated. God picked you to be on his team, to be in his family, long before the world was even founded. ___________________________________________________

God's thoughts toward you didn't stop though. David says in Psalm 139:17-18, "How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you." How much is God thinking about you? Try counting up all of the grains of sand at your local beach, and then extend that t-o the beaches of the world. God is thinking about you, his precious child, A LOT. _________________________________________________

The fact of God's choosing of you and the knowledge of his many precious thoughts toward you gives you great purpose. Your life has meaning, because the infinite God thinks you are important. His thoughts about you are true and the basis of your identity and purpose. ____________________________________________________

God always intended for you to know and love him. Confirm your purpose today by thanking him for choosing you. ____________________________________________________

When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. 2 Kings 2:9 NIV __________________________________________

Elisha had an amazing life as he followed the man of God, Elijah, around. He witnessed the power of God first hand. In fact Elisha was being trained up to take his mentor's place. He was about to receive the mantel and authority of a prophet. __________________________________________

But Elisha had a holy discontentment. The relationship with God that he had known was not to be settled for. He wanted more. He asked for a "double portion" of Elijah's spirit. ___________________________________________

When we begin to rest on the spiritual experiences of yesterday, our spirit begins to flatten. Living off of yesterday's revelations will will only carry us so far. ___________________________________________

Allow the Holy Spirit to stir within you a holy discontentment. Cry out for a fresh encounter with Jesus. Ask him to open your ears to hear and your eyes to see his movement  in your life. There is a deeper relationship with God waiting for you. Push past your contentment with what you've always known. ___________________________________________

The fear of the Lord leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble. Proverbs 19:23 NIV ___________________________________________

The fear of the Lord brings clear boundaries to our lives. Inside these boundaries are safety and life. Only within these boundaries can we know real contentment. ___________________________________________

When we play at the edge of wickedness, discontentment grows within us. Rebellion is actually the seedbed of a discontented life. Pushing past God's boundaries brings a restlessness into our souls. A little rebellion is never enough. It seeks to take over and leave us frayed, and ultimately destroyed. ____________________________________________

The pathway, then, to real contentment is to gain the fear of the Lord. Hating sin and loving righteousness (the definition of the fear of the Lord) keeps us well within God's good boundaries. A deep soul rest comes as a result. ___________________________________________

Do you wrestle with discontentment? Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you may lack the fear of the Lord… where you allow hints of sin to linger in your life. Repent of rebellion as you are convicted. Experience a new contentment that will stir within your soul. ___________________________________________

To be free as a bird… carefree and relaxed. Wouldn't that be nice? This type of contentment can be yours. Do you believe it? ______________________________________________

Or would you rather worry? Worry can seem like an unavoidable condition… like something that can't be stopped. When the pressure builds in life, the typical response is to worry. ___________________________________________

It's actually unbelief in the Father's provision and care that leads to stress and anxiety. Unbelief is not an unavoidable condition. It's a choice to rebel. In the same way, worry is an act of direct disobedience. ___________________________________________

Jesus tells us not to worry. Instead we are to seek his kingdom first. In return, all of the things we actually need will be provided for us. When we take Jesus at his word, we can experience the worry-free life - the life of real contentment. ___________________________________________

Contentment comes as a result of obedience. When we choose against our natural inclination to worry, we will know the blessing of provision and peace in our present situation. Take God up on his command and his promise to provide. Know the contentment that comes with obedience. __________________________________________

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Does the grass always seem to be greener on the other side of the fence? Do you wrestle with feeling like you could have more or be more? ___________________________________________

The truth is - your life situation is constantly changing. Maybe you have known the highs and lows of having lots of finance, then little finance. Perhaps your financial situation has remained steady, but relationships continue to change. Maybe sickness alters your life situation. Maybe your fridge is out of food. ___________________________________________

How do you handle the many changes in your life? How do you cope with your less than ideal circumstances? Contentment? This is what Paul had. He knew the secret of being content no matter what his situation. ____________________________________________

How would it be possible to live that way? Paul says, "I can do all things through Jesus who strengthens me." Perhaps you have read this famous verse before. Do you realize that it is written in the context of contentment? ____________________________________________

You have all the strength you need to live a contented life, no matter what your circumstances are. It is found in Jesus. There really is no reason, then, to walk in discontentment. ___________________________________________

In fact, the choice to live in discontentment is the choice to turn away from the strength that Jesus offers. It is a choice to rebel. ___________________________________________

Call out for Jesus' strength and walk the road marked out for you with contentment. ____________________________________________

Those who learn the path of godliness and contentment build their lives up with strength. In the context of 1 Timothy 6 we learn that being content with our financial situation is critically important. Discontentment in this area specifically can lead to disastrous results. ________________________________________

1 Timothy 6:9 - 10 says, "People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." _______________________________________

Guard your gates of contentment. Do not allow complaint to fester within your mind. You have a good Father who provides for his children. Begin thanking him. That will lead to contentment. ________________________________________

Where is your gaze fixed? What consumes your mind? This will indicate your level of joy. ___________________________________________

Those who fix their eyes on the unseen are people of faith. Although they have not seen Jesus with their physical eyes, they love him. They believe that real life is found in a love relationship with Jesus. ___________________________________________

This love relationship with Jesus requires communication, worship and prayer. All of these actions connect with the unseen realm. When we operate in this realm - specifically using our physical bodies to connect with God spiritually through worship and prayer - we are then filled with joy. ____________________________________________

The joy that comes through loving Jesus is described as inexpressible. This means that physical language cannot accurately capture the deep joy that you can experience. It is the joy of knowing you are saved, knowing you are loved. ______________________________________________________

Don't allow the small joys in life to distract you from the joy of your salvation. Activate this joy through pouring out your love to Jesus. He in turn will fill you with glorious joy. ____________________________________________________

The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. Psalms 19:8 NIV __________________________________________

What is your view on God's commands? Are they put in place to simply keep you on the straight and narrow? Are they given as an excuse to slap your hand? Some say rules are made to be broken… ___________________________________________

The Psalmist had a different relationship with God's commands. He actually loved the law, for he saw the intent of love behind it. You see, God's Word (commands, laws, precepts, etc.) are boundaries for us to live within. Inside God's boundaries there is safety, peace and freedom. ____________________________________________

Now that is a reason to rejoice. God has provided the best land for us to be truly free and safe in his presence. When we stay in his boundaries, we are filled with joy. We are actually the most free and have the most fun within his boundaries. ____________________________________________

Do you know what God's boundaries are for your life? He tells you about this in his Word. Listen to his voice. Obey him and be filled with joy. ___________________________________________
