And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever– the Spirit of truth. John 14:16-17 NIV ____________________________________________

When a close friend leaves us, sadness can remain. When a parent leaves us, the pain stays. The thought of being alone can be terrifying. Who can we count on? With whom can we share our heavy burdens? ________________________________________________

The disciples were truly shaken at the thought of Jesus leaving. I suppose you also would be very upset if you had the privilege of walking around with God in the flesh for three years. But Jesus didn’t seem worried. He knew his disciples would never be alone. ____________________________________________________

Jesus promised that the Father would send another One - the Holy Spirit. He would be the exact same as Jesus, except he wouldn’t have skin on. This Holy Spirit would make sure that we didn’t live as orphans. He would reveal the Father’s heart of love to us. The Holy Spirit would also remind us of all Jesus’ words. He would be talking a lot! _____________________________________________

You have a promise from God that you will never be alone. But you might feel quite alone at times. Even in a crowd, you might feel like no one truly understands you. How well do you know the Holy Spirit? _____________________________________________

The Holy Spirit is constantly speaking, moving reminding, loving, convicting and encouraging. But, are you listening? The more you learn to hear his voice and notice his movements, the more you will sense security flooding your soul. ______________________________________________

He says, “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). This is his promise based on his own faithfulness, not your present attractiveness. He’s not going anywhere. You’re stuck with him. And that’s a good thing! ______________________________________________

I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfils [his purpose] for me. Psalm 57:2 NIV _____________________________________________
⠀
What’s the highest elevation you have ever climbed to? Gone on any mountain treks where the air gets thin? The higher we climb, the more confidence we gain. Looking down from the heights can be exhilarating. _____________________________________________⠀
⠀
What’s the highest position you have ever achieved? The greatest level of success, the top company title… to what elevation have you climbed? _____________________________________________⠀
⠀
As we compare ourselves among ourselves, we are like ants having a competition about who can build and climb the biggest anthill. When we look at God Most High, all comparisons quickly fade. For to him, the heights of the heavens fit inside his hands. Psalm 19:4 says, “In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun.” He truly is higher and bigger than the millions of galaxies that make up our universe. _____________________________________________⠀
⠀
Yet, God Most High stoops to intersect with our lives. He involves himself in our detailed moments, ensuring that our purpose is realized. There is truly no one like our God. _____________________________________________
⠀
That God is higher than our universe and intimately cares about our lives has huge implications. It should pull out of us a deep trust, a child-like faith. For we have nothing to fear when we are loved by God Most High. _____________________________________________⠀
⠀
Do you worship God Most High, or is your God just a bit bigger than you? When the size of your God grows, your faith grows. Put away all notions of a manageable or containable God. Let your faith rise to meet God Most High. He is calling you to himself. ______________________________________________

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3 NIV _______________________________________
⠀
Where do you look for comfort? In the fridge, your phone or that person? The comfort you seek outside of God is like biting into cotton candy (fairy floss). The two seconds of sweetness is so good, but then it all disappears. _______________________________________⠀
⠀
God calls himself comfort. In this passage the Greek word for comfort is “paraklesis.” This is the same word used for the Holy Spirit in John 14:16. Jesus said that the Father would be sending another person, the Comforter or Holy Spirit, to be with you forever. _______________________________________⠀
⠀
The deepest comfort is expressed to you through a person, the Holy Spirit. He never leaves and always speaks to you. His presence brings comfort, and his words reassure you. ________________________________________
⠀
This God of all comfort brings security to you in ALL of your troubles. He does not stand idly by while you bear the weight and pressure of heavy loads. But why do you not always experience this comfort? _________________________________________
⠀
Remember, real comfort is found in a person, the Holy Spirit. In the midst of your trials, do you intently listen to his voice? Or do you run to the quick fix? He has promised to never leave you and always remind you of Jesus’ words. But, your role is to ask and listen. _______________________________________⠀
⠀
Stop a moment. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s specific words of comfort or wisdom in your situation. Determine to grab hold of his comfort. Listen to his voice through the Bible and in prayer. He will surely minister to your spirit, soul, mind and emotions. ________________________________________⠀

He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 NIV _____________________________________________
⠀
Our world is broken. People are hurting. Pain is very present in our homes and communities. What is the source of our brokenness? Sin. ______________________________
⠀
In the beginning, God created a perfect world. But when man chose to sin, everything was impacted. Everything broke. Pain entered the scene. Problems in our bodies, in nature and in relationships come with the broad impact of our sin on this world. The moment Adam and Eve sinned, everything started dying. As we continue to sin, death and all its associated evils are allowed to linger among us.⠀______________________________________
⠀
So, how does God respond to our pain and trouble? He comes to heal us. The Father is not to blame for our problems. He did not cause our pain and sorrow, but he does come to heal them. He calls himself “The Lord who heals.”⠀
⠀
The consistency of God’s healing nature is shown throughout the Bible. He constantly healed the Israelites of their diseases. And as we look at God in the flesh - Jesus - we see the his healing power all the more. Jesus was constantly with crowds of people, healing all their sickness and diseases (Matt. 4:23; 9:35; Luke 6:19; 9:6,11; Acts 10:38). What did Jesus do in his day-to-day ministry for three years? He healed people.⠀________________________________
⠀
This same Jesus is alive today. He still heals. He is still called, “The Lord who heals.” Perhaps, you have lived with sickness or sorrow for a long time. Maybe you have prayed, but no healing has come. Can I encourage you today? Don’t stop calling out on the name of Jesus. Cry out to him again. Call out to him on behalf of others. Trust him for healing. Jesus longs to work with you in seeing his miracle revealed. So, don’t stop believing God. Ask him how to pray, then speak out with authority your prayer of faith.⠀________

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV ___________________________________________
⠀
Have you ever forgotten a good friend’s birthday? How about a significant anniversary? It feels terrible, but yet it’s all too common. We find it hard to stay consistent as friends. Seasons change. Our commitments change. ______________________________________________
⠀
There is One who is completely faithful… who never breaks a promise, who remembers every detail, who perseveres in relationship with us even when we are faithless (2 Tim. 2:13). ________________________________
⠀
God is known by his faithfulness. He is called El HaNe'eman (meaning “faithful God” in Hebrew). This is God’s name, because he always chooses to act faithfully. He keeps his promises, never forgetting even the smallest detail. _____________________________________
⠀
God the Faithful makes promises to his people. He doesn’t forget them. Do you? The Bible says that if we remember his promises, we will be able to walk with spiritual power and authority (2 Peter 1:3-4). The key to walking closely with this Faithful God is to remember, give thanks and apply the promises of God. Can you do this? Ask God how you can practically apply his promises to your current situation. Begin with this list. ___________________________________

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4 NASB ___________________________________________
⠀
There’s something you need more than air. ____________________________________________
⠀
Stop a moment. Take a deep breath. Now breathe out. Where did that breath come from? Where does the life filling your lungs come from? _____________________________________________
⠀
Genesis 2:7 says, “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” ____________________________________________
⠀
Your very life is created and sustained by the very breath of God! In fact, another name for God is Spirit of God or breath of God. Spirit of God in the original Hebrew is ruach, meaning breath. ___________________________________________
⠀
As you breathe in right now, do you recognize that the very Spirit of God is giving you life? He is indeed closer than a breath away. God has determined to stay close to you. He can do this because he is Spirit. ___________________________________________
⠀
John 4:24 says that God is spirit. This does not mean that he is merely breath or a wind. He is a real person who comes very close. Yet, you cannot see him. He does not have the flesh that Jesus has. But you can see the manifestation of his power all over the place. ____________________________________________
⠀
Invite the Spirit of God to breathe in you… meaning, invite him to come close and speak to you. Tell him that you want to follow his gentle promptings. Don’t relate to him as you would relate to wind or warm sunshine. He is a real person to be adored and revered. _____________________________________________
⠀
The Spirit of God is closer to you than you can imagine. He is the breath you really need. Will you acknowledge him today? ____________________________________________

God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14 NIV ____________________________
⠀
Thor, Superman, the Hulk - today’s versions of indestructible heroes. They possess other-worldly strength and travel between realms. We like to imagine a place where superheroes are real. But then reality sets in. For even our greatest superheroes have a weakness (kryptonite). __________________________
⠀
Moses lived in the real world and had a real job tending sheep. Suddenly his reality was intersected by the appearance of God in a burning bush. Moses asked the name of this great, holy being talking to him. God called himself the “I Am.” ________________________________
⠀
God sets himself apart from all superheroes and supernatural creatures. For all of these “super” characters had a beginning. God, however, has always existed and always will exist. He is eternal. He is the great I Am, the creator and sustainer of all life. ________________________________
⠀
No one and nothing can even compete with God. As the I Am, he is on a completely different level from everyone else. Yet, this I Am desires to come close. He speaks to Moses through a burning bush. _________________________⠀
⠀
And he speaks to us through his Son, Jesus. In John 8:58, Jesus told the religious leaders that he is the “I Am.” In other words, Jesus called himself the eternal God. It is amazing to consider how the I Am walked our roads, healed our sicknesses and sacrificed himself for our sins. _____________________________⠀
⠀
Put your trust in the great I Am today. He knows the end from the beginning. He created your timeline, so he certainly holds your times in his hands. Don’t try to hide from the I Am. That would be futile. _____________________________⠀
⠀
Listen carefully to his voice. He knows best how to live your life. As the I Am, he is ever-present to counsel and direct your steps. So bow in worship… listen to him and obey. What would be a more fitting response to the great I Am? ______________________________

I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints. Psalms 52:9 NIV _______________________________________________
⠀
God is so good to us. He shows us who he is by his acts of power and provision on our behalf. But he doesn’t stay hidden from us - just staying in the background. He wants to be known by us. So he gives us his names. ______________________________________________
⠀
When you call someone by their name, it means that you are beginning to know them. When you learn God’s names and begin to use them, you will draw closer to him in intimacy. God’s character is revealed by his names. Get to know his names. Begin using his names, and you will know him better. ______________________________________________
⠀
In Psalms 52 David says that he puts his hope in God’s name. Remember, God’s name reveals his character. He is called the God of hope (Romans 15:13). Real hope is found in God alone. You can look for small hopes in a cup of coffee, a relaxing weekend or a good sleep-in. But, God provides an enduring hope that doesn’t fluctuate with your feelings. ____________________________________________________
⠀
God’s hope is based on his consistent character. He is full of hope for you, because of his own faithfulness to you. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). ______________________________________________
⠀
Speak out God’s name. Call out to the God of Hope. Declare who he is, and his hope will begin to permeate your spirit. God desires for his name to be overflowing in your life… for his hope to be welling up and pouring out of you. Use his name! ______________________________________________

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalms 52:16-17 NIV ______________________________________________
⠀
When you have sinned, you feel bad - sometimes terrible. You speak out confession, hoping never to do it again. Perhaps you even cry out for mercy. You wonder if you’ve done enough to make things right. What is God looking for? _____________________________________________
⠀
Brokenness. David acknowledged that he could offer sacrifice after sacrifice, but that’s not what God really desires. There is a contriteness of spirit, a brokenness that really pleases God. _______________________________________________⠀
⠀
Where does this brokenness come from? First, it comes from a right perspective of your sin. When you recognize that you have offended God first and foremost, a deep sobering enters into your spirit. When you feel bad about your sin, is it because you were caught, ashamed or embarrassed? Are you annoyed with the consequences? This will not bring brokenness into your spirit. ______________________________________________⠀
⠀
When you recognize that you have offended the most loving, most beautiful, and most powerful One in the universe, your stubbornness begins to break. Now begin to cry out to God for a revelation of how your sin affects his heart. He grieves over anything that would separate you from him. _______________________________________
⠀
David caught the heart of God. He desperately wanted to be clean before his Maker. He wasn’t content to apologize. He wanted more… a softened spirit, one that felt God’s heart. That was true humility. He wanted nothing to do with paying penance for his sins. Only a broken spirit would be sufficient. _______________________________⠀
⠀
Run from trite apologies. Jesus paid for your sins. Don’t try to do that. But you can run toward brokennness. Ask God for his perspective on your sin. Call out for revelation on the grieving heart of God. Brokenness will come. ______________________________

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:11-12 NIV ________________________________________________
⠀
Have you stood at the ocean’s shore gazing into an endless blue-green vista? How about the mountains on a cold, clear night? Have you stared into the blackness littered with bright points of light? Can you imagine how high the heavens are above the earth? _______________________________________________
⠀
The love of God is higher than that. He is not measured or calculating in his love for you. It will blow your mind and wrap you up. To think that you could even be known by this huge Creator is astounding. But you are known AND loved. ________________________________________________
⠀
His desire is that you would know the height, depth, breadth and width of his love… and to know this love that surpasses mere head knowledge that you would be filled to overflowing (Ephesians 3:18-19). _______________________________________________⠀
⠀
God’s promise is that if you fear him, you will be drawn into this unending love. This is something you can do! To fear God means to hate sin (Proverbs 8:13). Sin will always stifle the love of God in your life. That is not God’s fault. It is your responsibility to turn away from sin and turn to your Father. _______________________________________________
⠀
As you turn from sin, God will not hold it over your head. He removes it as far as the east is from the west. Then he envelopes you with his love. He wants you to experience this. ______________________________________________
⠀
The pathway to this overwhelming experience of the love of God is to fear him… to choose intimacy with him by hating any love-killer… that is, sin. Choose his love today! ______________________________________________

God is my Rock ______________________________________________
⠀
He is consistent. He remains solid. God is not shaken by the schemes of evil people. He does not run away in fear. ______________________________________________
⠀
God is not moody. His colors do not change with a whim. God is not fragile in his emotions. He can be trusted and relied on to respond with unconditional love to you. ______________________________________________
⠀
God is my Tender Rock ______________________________________________
⠀
Do not be confused. God is not an unfeeling, immovable rock. His heart beats with the heart of a Father. He rushes to save his little one who is lost, surrounded by trouble. ______________________________________________
⠀
God parts the heavens and comes down. He thunders, throws down bolts of lightening and routs your enemies. He reaches down from on high and takes hold of you. He rescues you because he delights in you (Psalm 18:9, 13-14, 16, 19). _______________________________________________
⠀
Do you realize that your Father God is strong and loving? He moves into action on your behalf. He is full of protective love toward you. His tender heart rushes to intervene in your life. _______________________________________________

But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. Psalms 49:12-13 NIV _________________________________________________
⠀
What is the purpose of your life? To do something legendary? To gain followers? To be remembered for something wonderful that you did? Even the most famous person or the richest mogul will eventually be a name on a tombstone. So what are you living for? ________________________________________________
⠀
When we look to ourselves for meaning and purpose, we fall short. The amassing of riches and followers is a dead end path. The ultimate destination is self. With self-gratification as the ultimate goal, we are left with a strong sense of purposelessness. _______________________________________________
⠀
How often do you check for followers, for likes and unlikes on your social feeds? The Bible says that people who trust in themselves or their followers will perish. The pursuit of acceptance outside of Jesus is a never-ending, meaningless existence. _______________________________________________
⠀
There is a much higher purpose that God has called us to… to honor and please Jesus. In Galatians 1:10 Paul says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.” __________________________________________________
⠀
Will you live for an audience of One? Do you understand that the world’s opinion of you will rise and fall? Eventually, people will forget your name. But, the One who matters most - Jesus Christ - will never forget you. He has the ability to bring real meaning to your life. His opinion counts! ________________________________________________
⠀
Get off the dead end path of gaining worldly followers. Get on a new road of living for the opinion of One, your Lord Jesus. His path leads to everlasting life. ___________________________
