Fancy swapping skyscrapers for karst mountains, or traffic lined streets for floating bamboo rafts on the Li-river? Why not take a trip from bustling Beijing to the rural Yangshuo...

Forget aeroplanes – high-speed rail is the way to go. Flights into and around China often experience delays as a result of bad weather conditions while bullet trains are known for being punctual, fairly inexpensive and well kept. Link in bio for more tips for your trip to China.

A tumble of colourful buildings around a tucked-away harbour, Riomaggiore is among the postcard-perfect views that have come to define Italy's Cinque Terre.

Make your way past the bobbing fishing boats and follow the narrow path that leads off from the picturesque marina – confounding all expectations of a dead end, it leads to La Fossala, a secluded rocky beach with enticing crystalline waters. No wonder the locals want to keep it secret...

Located in a decadent belle époque building in Mérida, this design-led hideaway is comprised of carrara marble his-and-hers vanities, gilt mirrors, glass chandeliers and two claw-foot tubs. Coqui Coqui’s bathroom is unbeatable when it comes to both regalness and relaxation.

Kelingking Beach is the crown jewel of the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida – and one of the island's best-kept secrets. Reach this secluded spot by descending a rugged 400m cliff. From the top of the hills you can enjoy one of the most *literally* breathtaking views – some are lucky enough to spot the sting rays from above. ⠀

“So vast is India, and so uniquely resilient and deeply rooted are her intertwined social and religious institutions, that all foreign intruders are sooner or later either shaken off or absorbed,” wrote William Dalrymple in White Mughals. Taking his cue, @sophalicemerrell soaks up the true colours of Rajasthan. Link in bio for the full album.⠀

Founded in 1965 by American socialites Patricia and Michael Graham, this cliffside resort was frequented by anyone who was anyone in the 60s and 70s. The Pucci, Missoni and Fendi families, the European jetset and even mister Charlie Chaplin all clinked glasses and nibbled the turn-down chocolates here.⠀

"This treeless land of volcanoes and steaming fissures is where three of the earth’s tectonic plates diverge, ripping the rocky wilderness into deep canyons and throwing up towering limestone chimneys like mystical fortress kingdoms. Among its vast basalt plains live the nomadic Afar people." @kateeshelby visited the surreal landscapes of the Danikil Depression in the former French colony, Djibouti.⠀

Step aside Machu Picchu; Peru’s Vinicunca mountain is vying for the top spot. Aptly nicknamed “Rainbow Mountain”, these candy-striped peaks are notoriously difficult to reach. Spread over six or seven days, the 69km trek is not one for beginners, as altitude changes quickly – but you'll be rewarded with views across spectacular terrain, glacial lakes and hot springs.⠀

Santorini is much more than what is snapped by countless tourists. Stumble upon tiny lanes en route to Oía, discover little-known enclaves and unexpected glimpses of the sea. Thanks to villages that cascade over cliffs and endless lounger-laden terraces, the Santorini dining experience is hard to beat. ⠀

"While most visitors head to northern Ethiopia, which is rich in cultural and religious history, I travelled south to the Omo Valley. Relatively cut off from modern civilisation, this region has been home to nomadic tribes for centuries. Across luscious green valleys and off-terrain roads, I encountered five different tribes: the Hamar, Karo, Dassanech, Mursi and Banna." @kishanth was rewarded not just with the beauty of this diverse country but with a deep connection that can only come from raw, unadulterated experience.

A former coaching inn spiked with English eccentricity, The University Arms is every bibliophile’s bliss. Thumb through classics in the library, bed down in rooms named after famed alumni, or tuck into the restaurant’s quintessentially British dishes. No Cambridge degree required.⠀

This dramatic Olympic-sized ocean pool at the southern end of Bondi Beach is home to the winter swimming club, Bondi Icebergs. To become an “iceberg”, you must log 75 swims in the “off season”. Sound easy? With temperatures slightly colder than the ocean, the Aussies call the pool “the band of steel”. On a less chilly note, the pool also opens to the public in the summer season for leisurely dips.⠀

We’ve splashed our way around a selection of hotels, resorts and world heritage sites to find you the most insane outdoor swimming pools. Link in bio.⠀
