Cyrus Holliday was one of the founders of #Topeka. Shortly after Topeka was founded, Holliday began the Atchison and Topeka Railroad Company which would later become the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. Holliday was also the first mayor of Topeka and donated the land the state capitol was built on.

The Cyrus Hotel, named in Holliday’s honor, will be opening on Wednesday. It is just the latest in the renaissance that Downtown Topeka has been experiencing the last few years. The hotel sits across from a small pocket park honoring the railroad and Cyrus Holliday.

Holliday would pass away in 1900 at the age of 73. He is buried in Topeka Cemetery.
