Have you visited First Waves yet? Don’t miss this poignant exhibition of new photographic portraits by artist Scarlett Crawford. 
Liverpool’s young people from The Greenhouse Project, Tiber’s Young People's Steering Group and Liverpool Community Spirit’s Multi-Faith Youth Council are staged with various items that say something about how their lives have been impacted by the 1968 Race Relations Act, creating a truly powerful experience.

In our #FirstWaves exhibition, the red ribbon represents community and blood ties, the light bulb represents hope. Here, Asia is depicted bound by the ribbon, whilst holding a light bulb toward the camera. “By tying the ribbon around her wrists, Asia wanted to show how we are restrained by oppression, but holds the light bulb to symbolise a better future ahead.” - Scarlett Crawford

Within our current First Waves exhibition, the young people depicted in the photographs hold objects symbolising specific ideas.

Here, Faz sets fire to a piece of parchment, representing legislation. “By setting fire to the parchment she wanted to show how ineffective policy leads to anger and apathy amongst young people.” - Scarlett Crawford.
