โ€œAll these words from the seller, but not one word from the sold.โ€ Zora Neale Hurston on why she wanted to tell Cudjoโ€™s story in her recently discovered manuscript for the book, Barracoon. Iโ€™ve heard and read a ton of reviews and commentary about this tiny book (technically less than 208 pages of actual story). I have not read it.....yet. I am more than a little intrigued and plan to read it soon! I think since Zora Neal Hurston was first quoted about this book there have been several first person narratives about/from those that were enslaved. Alex Haleyโ€™s books, Roots and Queen come to mind. Although many believe his stories were factual but with some fictional embellishments. I think hearing the story of anyone who lived through or even witnessed the atrocities of slavery helps us understand (to some degree) the reason America canโ€™t seem to get its shit together when it comes to race relations in this country. Those wounds still havenโ€™t completely healed because anger, hate and fear have been festering for generations. #diversespines #traciemomiereads #HappyJuneteenth

Poolside. The weather here is all sunshine one minute and pouring rain the next! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Typical Houston summer! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ
Quite a few years ago when macarons first became all the rage here in the States, I tried and failed MISERABLY to make them at home. Well, a winner donโ€™t quit on themselves......so, I put it on my summer bucket list this year to try again. I TOTALLY REDEEMED MYSELF!! My daughter was also a big help assisting me in the kitchen. โ˜บ๏ธ And Iโ€™m not going to lie to yโ€™all....they taste even better than they look!! #SaltedCaramelMacarons ๐Ÿ† (check my InstaStory for the before pic if youโ€™re in doubt ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚)
Four books and counting.....๐Ÿ“š.... ******************************************* All of my books are fictional stories about relationships- there are friendships and family relationships in them but mainly they are about the relationships between men and women and everything that entails. Although they are fictional they are based on real-life/relatable issues.
My first book (What Was Missing) deals with finding love again after infidelity & divorce, the second book (Nothing I Can Say) deals with a married couple going through counseling and dealing with infertility. The third book (An Emotional Appeal) is pretty much the examination of a relationship that takes past baggage into it and, my most recent book (Here You Come Again) focuses on second chances and how the way we are raised can potentially sabotage our future relationships.
The stories are very entertaining but not psychologically "deep", however, I think they spark conversations about human relationships, which is my point for writing them. ๐Ÿ’•
Happy Monday! This week make time for self care and while youโ€™re at it, do yourself huge a favor....pick up a good book! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ“š {๐Ÿ“ท: @mario_rubio1209}
I know Iโ€™m a few years late in reading this but in this case better late than never! the life-changing magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo is actually magic. ๐Ÿ’ซ Such great tips and perspectives on decluttering your space, which ultimately has an impact on your life. Two of the top tips that stuck out to me- focus on getting rid of stuff instead of insisting you need more storage, and we should organize by category not by room! I also loved her perspective that it is easier to let of go of things once we acknowledge that they have served their purpose in our life. Very simple stuff that had a big impact! ******************************************* (Shameful/transparent moment: I threw away about eight large trash bags of STUFF after reading this book. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ) #traciemomiereads
Summer, summer, summertime! ๐ŸŽถ Not entirely sure why summer isnโ€™t official until June 21st. The temperature outside says otherwise! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜“ ๐Ÿ– #TGIF
I am so in love with these raffia tassel slides that I got from @target! ๐Ÿ’•
Wow. This book was a serious page turner! I finished it in two days. There were so many twists and turns and an ending that I did not see coming! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Iโ€™m not even going to do a full review for fear that I might spoil it. But how is this for a premise: After an accident that killed her brother, a woman breaks up with the love of her life and seventeen years later he and his wife move in next door to her and her husband! All kinds of skeletons came tumbling out of the closet. Whew! The Neighbors is a fast paced story that tackles family issues, love, loss, infertility, infidelity, guilt, and makes you wonder is karma really that cruel? #traciemomiereads
