Alice Masaryková was a Czechoslovak teacher, sociologist, politician, feminist, antifascist, anticommunist and the daughter of the first Czechoslovak President, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Alice Masaryková founded and led the Czechoslovak Red Cross and after her mother died, she became de facto First Lady of Czechoslovakia, while helping build a modern and prosperous country with strong diplomatic ties with the West. When her homeland was ruled by Nazis and later Communists, Alice lived in exile and spoke out against these regimes. Exactly 3 years ago, Google honored Františka Plamínková by reminding people about the anniversary of her birthday. Františka Plamínková was a Czech socialist politician and feminist that became world known for her fight for women’s rights. In September 1938, she sent an open letter to Adolf Hitler accusing him of lies and injustice. When Czechoslovak antifascists killed the Nazi war criminal Reinhard Heydrich, the 67 year old Františka Plamínková was arrested and executed without charge or trial at the Kobylisy Shooting Range in Prague along with hundreds of Czech patriots. Generals Ludvík Svoboda, Karel Klapálek, Antonín Hasal and Bohumil Boček are carrying a coffin with their friend and another General, Jaroslav Vedral, the highest ranking Czechoslovak officer that was killed during World War 2. Vedral led the First Brigade (in the Battle of the Dukla Pass), which successfully penetrated the Carpathian Mountains and crossed the Polish-Slovak state border. Czechoslovak artillerymen from the 5th Artillery Regiment are moving their 152mm howitzer into the Battle of Liptovský Mikuláš. High Tatras can be seen in the background. Ladies of the 2nd Czechoslovak Independent Airborne Brigade marching down the streets of the war-torn Yefremov, Soviet Union (now Russia) in 1944. Most of the ladies fought in the horrible Battle of the Dukla Pass as regular infantry and were deployed in the Slovak National Uprising, which became the longest deployment of such an airborne unit in enemy territory during World War 2. Museum of the Ostrava Offensive Operation in Hrabyne, Czech Republic. The Operation caused over 100 thousand casualties on each side and Czechoslovaks took part in its main Battle of Ostrava with their 1st Czechoslovak Tank Brigade (65x T-34/85 medium tanks) and 1st Czechoslovak Mixed Aviation Division (2x fighter regiments with Lavochkin La-5 fighter planes and 1x battle regiment with Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik battle planes). „One must fight evil he can handle.“ Words of Jan Palach, who was dying in great pain after he set himself on fire on Vaclav square in Prague 50 years ago. Palach wanted to wake the whole country up from its apathy after it was invaded by its allies in 1968 and occupied by the Soviet Union. His funeral turned into another large demonstration, but things simply did not change.
