Sometimes after a particularly long visit to the dentist, a full TMJ session is in order! In this session, Dr. @lisakgoodman started with #Graston to the temporalis muscles, followed by intraoral trigger point treatment to the pterygoids. Next we did a full infrared #KLASER session on the jaw followed by #myofascialrelease to the upper neck muscles and masseter. All of this in about 15 minutes. We typically also add a chiropractic neck adjustment to round out the treatment. Highly effective and efficient.

Discogenic pain, disc bulges and disc herniations are very common injuries. Approximately 70% of people will experience some sort of severe low back pain episode in their life. If caught early, these injuries can be managed and resolved with conservative chiropractic care. Symptoms you should look out for: Severe sudden or gradual low back pain, low back muscle spasms, pain that travels into the buttocks and legs, weakness/unable to stand on toes or heels, made worse with: bending forward, touching toes, coughing or sneezing, made better with; lying on back( knees bent), lying on stomach (cobra). Like any sprain/strain injury, a mild disc injury can take 4-6 weeks to heal. A moderate disc injury 6-12 weeks. A severe disc herniation can heal in 6 months or more. Most disc injuries and herniations will heal with conservative treatment (without surgery). Do you often have pain in between your shoulder blades and can't ever seem to stretch, roll, massage enough to make it stop?  It is most often because we are mis-interpreting our bodies signals.  Most of us spend many hours in front of the computer, on our devices, driving, etc. all actions that create a rounded shoulder, head forward posture.  This posture is then held by over active muscles that become short in the pects/chest and lengthened, under active and weak muscles in the rhomboids/between the shoulder blades.  These weakened, lengthen muscles then are more vulnerable to injury and therefore are more communicative - sore and grumpy- trying to let the brain know that they could tear. So what can you do about it? Strengthening the muscles between the shoulder blades and stretch the opposing muscles that are over active and short - the pects!  Pin and stretch with a lacrosse ball on a door jam is one way to help break up adhesions.  This concept is something that can be considered all over the body, one in particular that is very common is hamstring pain and "tightness" can often come from over active quads.
